| | From Dublin, arrived here three weeks ago, bored.
Hi,
I arrived in Zurich three weeks ago from Dublin to work at a bank.
Since then I am bored.
I speak both German and English and have literally nothing to do on weekends. Plus I don't know anyone here.
Anyone reading this interested in playing Chess, Badminton, watching movies, old TV shows or anything like that, please reply. :-)

Unless you like mountains, skiing & sex, there is not much else to do at the weekends.

Hi,
I totally get what you mean. I always wonder what people do on weekend in Switzerland too. I am still trying to adapt, coming from a city where shops are open everyday and for longer hours too.
Hopefully, you manage to have a network of friends to hang out with over time.
All the best,
Cecilia |

The secret lies in self-motivation... especially when there's a new world out there - but I only say this to lessen your burden of being bored.

Last time I was bored must have been the last century... and I'm not THAT fond of mountains and skiing.
Museums are also open here on Sundays, the people of Zurich like to brunch, the Zoo is open, my parents like to phone their relatives, I usually do an extra long session at the gym, do housework, read...

I'm fairly new here too (living on Lake Geneva) and from Dublin. It's a lot different from back home especially with no shopping on Sunday and a lot of places closed etc. I was never into shopping much but I do miss having the option to go on Sunday if you need something.
However, that's why you really need to get out to the mountains and do some hiking. Or buy a bike and go cycling. There so much outdoor stuff to do, we are spoilt for choice. This was one of the major deciding factors for me in coming here apart from work.
There's also Milan which is pretty close by (at least from here) which is great for a weekend city retreat somewhere lively and the shops open on a Sunday too.
I suppose we must spare a thought for many of the recession hit folk back home who are barely able to break even and can't even afford to go shopping on a Sunday anyway. Think of Switzerland as a great opportunity.
