I have been living here for over 2 years, but I just found this forum. Are there any other Louisiana natives here? Or perhaps just people who like New Orleans. I sometimes think I am the only one here.
I am married to a Swiss man. I have 2 young boys that I stay home with. Other than the long Winters, I love it here. I just often get homesick and feel like it would be nice to meet some people from my area. Just being able to connect with more English speakers would be great too. So if you like anything New Orleans (jazz, food, culture) let me know... I try to keep up with any musicians from New Orleans playing in Switzerland. Oh and I am a huge Saints fan too.

Yes I have, in 2008 for Jazz Fest. Amazing. I also rented a car, drove a few hours, and spent one night in a plantation house. Wonderful memories remain with me still.

Like Britney Spears, depending on who you ask and what I feel like claiming that day, I could be from Mississippi (born) or Louisiana (raised). I usually claim Louisiana unless Ole Miss (hotty toddy) wins a football game, or LSU loses one (*hate corndogs*), both of which only happen once every fifty years, so yeah, I'm from Louisiana. Welcome to the forum!

For jazz, one great Swiss Dixieland band is the Bauchnusti Stompers, if you are into old skool Pete Fountain type stuff. Their repertoire is classic (think Jazz Brunch at Court of Two Sisters fare), and they play pretty often around Zurich and do some of the European festivals in the summer. I like listening to them when I feel homesick. I'll try to track down their upcoming dates.

Cool! I went to the fest the last 2 years alone with my 2 young sons. It is an amazing experience. I've only missed 2 in the last 17 years! This year i want to check out some of the Jazz festivals here(I have been to Montreaux twice).Ascona seems interesting. Next trip to New Orleans will be Christmas next year for a Saints game.

Slidell in the house. Going home next month for X-mas holiday. Already planning on putting on 10lbs and eating myself into a coma.

Word of warning: I went to Uni at UL Lafayette, and those Cajuns would take offense to any New Orleans native calling themselves Cajun. Anything East of the Atchafalaya is Creole; not Cajun.

While I revel in any beating of the Falcons, it was too close. They almost gave it away, as they're wont to do sometimes. Did you watch it? I haven't found any suitable NFL viewing here. I just have to listen to it on WWL over the 'Net.

Kind of the opposite for me: raised in Slidell, went to high school in Bay St. Louis. But that was only the high school. Luckily no Mississippi in my formative years.

Nice to meet you. Basel has an amazing jazz festival every August. Lots of Nola jazz from brass to Dixieland. I was second lining for sure I am from Houma originally, but lived in Nola most of my adult life.

Not true. I am from Houma and as Cajun as they come! My grandmother was Boudreux on one side Guidry on the other. My father plays Cajun music and wrote a Cajun dictionary. We are swamp Cajuns from Lafayette are prairie Cajuns. Creole is from New Orleans of Spanish and French ancestry meaning "from the colonies". I know about my Cajun ancestry!
We get NFL pass for the games.

How did you end up going to school in Slidell? Whereabouts in Slidell are you from?

I found a group of guys who play Cajun music from Geneva. Young and hip guys I might add. I have been trying to catch a show, but my level of sleep deprivation from my 2 young boys won't allow me. I keep in touch with them however. Their name is Mama Rosin.

I had a party last night for the game. 1 Falcons fan, poor guy I don't think he got how much the Saints mean to me. A party would be fun!! I live in Basel. Anyone close? Well y'all are all close.. This is cool!!

Hell. Where was this thread last week? I live in AG, but a mere 2km from the Zürich border. Evidently within spitting distance from NicoleCZ. If you have another viewing party, I'd certainly be up to traveling to Basel for that.

Why Slidell (because Slidell is never a choice): my mom worked in New Orleans and my dad worked in Gulfport, so Slidell was a compromise in that they both would have had an equally crappy commute. I went to Northshore for high school and lived up around there.

I don't know anyone with a NFL package, sadly. I followed the Saints game on twitter!
