Hey you guys! I joined the forum about a week ago and I've been meaning to post an intro. So here we go.

In a nutshell:

I'm Malaysian and I moved to Zürich five weeks ago with my Swiss fiance (our standsamt shindig is in a few weeks!). I have to say, this forum has been amazing- really helpful! I actually don't even remember how I found it but it was definitely whilst googling something or the other about Zürich.

To be honest I have yet to master all the functions et cetera within this forum but I'm looking forward to it. For example, I was going through some of the profiles the other day and there were visitor messages where other people were thanking the person whose profile it was for "greenies" and "blobbies". I must confess that at first I thought these "greenies" and "blobbies" were food items and then yesterday when I was messing with my control panel I discovered the reputation points part and then it HIT me! LOL! ....Yeah

I digress, sorry. But yeah, the five weeks I've spent here have been rather interesting. I've had a great time but it includes quite a few panic attacks here and there. I had visited Zürich before but man, living here is a whole other ballgame. I'm guessing most of you would know what I mean in relation to language and life here. It has been such a challenge, sometimes I feel like I'm in a really bad movie (yeah weird analogy I know ).

However, I start my German classes at the klubshule tomorrow, so YAY -- one step closer to blending in! Also I am hoping to make some friends here because I've been a bit lonely and I'd love to meet up and chat over drinks or so.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I really didn't know how to start or what exactly to say but yeah this is pretty much it. I look forward to hearing from you lot!

That was a remarkably good introduction if I do say so myself! I have been skimming through some intros trying to pluck up the courage to actually post but I keep freezing up on the message page
My first visit to Zurich 6 months ago was not a particularly pleasant one and I was disturbed by the pace at which everything moved (especially the folks commuting by train, tram, bus!) I've been working and commuting between zurich and zug for the past 2 weeks now and have satifactorily overcome my shell shock and am starting to get sucked into the 'can't be anywhere quick enough' lifestyle... which is probably the most worrying thing! I suspect you may be able to relate to this somewhat and wish you a happy settling and less panic attacks for the future

Honestly, been there, done that. I was so inhibited when it came to posting an intro myself. But you know I thought what the hell I'm just gon say hi and see where that takes me.

Do you mind me asking why your first visit wasn't very pleasant? Yup I get what you mean about the transport system. Living here is quite different because I swear I'm always running to catch either a tram, bus or train - so not funny. Haha, I used to dream about running to catch the tram when I first visited in 2009. Seriously.

Ah, so when exactly did you move here? And where exactly are you based? Because your profile says Ticino and I'm abit confused as to how come you've been commuting between Zurich and Zug.

Sorry for the late reply... I have been bed bound due to an hallucinatory fever. Still recovering so let's hope I don't start spouting nonsense now
I was really freaked out by the pace of zurich when I first got here and the main reason it sucked for me was due to my incredibly relaxed lifestyle clashing with metropolitan madness! And I do believe (and somewhat fear) that I am becoming 'one of them'
I was living in a tiny village on lake maggiore, ticino and a couple of weeks I moved up here from the idylic 'little italy of switzerland' for a child care job in a bi-lingual creche in Zug.
Still haven't found an apartment so am travelling everyday from my chaps place in the outskirts of Zurich to Zug and then back to the lake at weekends. I have had to leave my dog with my housemate there until I can sort myself out! Am not liking it much
But enough about this nonsense... what about you!? How's job hunting treating you? How and where did you meet your chap? And what on earth is a standsamt shindig!?!
