Yes, in Afrikaans the hole part is frequently used scatologically, but that's why it's a humorous idiom.
You know those movies where someone says "He couldn't tell his asshole from a hole in the ground?" Well, in Afrikaans we use the same word for both.
Helpful explanation or banning offense? Let the jury decide.

Bliksem! Tyd om die waens to laager en a tjoppie te tan.
Roughly translated:-
There's so many South Africans here in Switzerland next thing they will be making circles with their wagons and cooking animals on open flames.
Hoezit!

Gat more often than not refers to your poephol or rather ass. Although hol is also used in that regard quite frequently... But Hol-vol sounds a bit weird though. Hol is usually quite derogatory though.
Anyway, as these are usually a little more colloquial, they are often used quite loosely.

Hallo Reuben,
Ek is nes jy nog nie heeltemal in Switserland nie, maar ek is goed oppad. Altyd goed om 'n handy man te ken, en ek hoop dinge werk uit vir jou op die werkfront. Die Switsers waardeer harde werkers, jy gaan nie 'n probleem he^ met die regte houding nie.
Cheers!

I'm quite aware of the common associations of the word itself with the less politely termed regions of the corps humain...but by being too explicit as to connotations you'll get us both modded... | This user would like to thank marksmadsen for this useful post: | |

Welcome to the forum, boet....(and thats all the Afrikaans that I can remember, almost failed that subject!!)
I hope that you settle in well, and find something to keep you busy
. though a job as a driving instructor is not a bad job, quiet lucrative.
