True, ass-full doesn't quite sound right. I have had enough or I am sick of it, works ok.

Translation: Charlize, i taste you broken...

or I like you a lot!

You can't translate it because that's not quite what it means. It just means, literally, a holefull. Yes, in Afrikaans the hole part is frequently used scatologically, but that's why it's a humorous idiom.

You know those movies where someone says "He couldn't tell his asshole from a hole in the ground?" Well, in Afrikaans we use the same word for both.

Helpful explanation or banning offense? Let the jury decide.

Roughly translated:-

There's so many South Africans here in Switzerland next thing they will be making circles with their wagons and cooking animals on open flames.

Btw, are you a Saffa? If so, where do you hail from in SA?

Gat more often than not refers to your poephol or rather ass. Although hol is also used in that regard quite frequently... But Hol-vol sounds a bit weird though. Hol is usually quite derogatory though.

Anyway, as these are usually a little more colloquial, they are often used quite loosely.

Hallo Reuben,

Ek is nes jy nog nie heeltemal in Switserland nie, maar ek is goed oppad. Altyd goed om 'n handy man te ken, en ek hoop dinge werk uit vir jou op die werkfront. Die Switsers waardeer harde werkers, jy gaan nie 'n probleem he^ met die regte houding nie.

Cheers!

My youth was misspent on the mountains and beaches of CT. Unfortunately, I have to admit that I never met a girl named Cookie Hall.

I'm quite aware of the common associations of the word itself with the less politely termed regions of the corps humain...but by being too explicit as to connotations you'll get us both modded...

For all the non-Awesomeafrikaans speakers out there:

"I'm just like you but not completely in Switzerland yet, but I'm well on the way. Always good to know a handy-man, I hope things work out for you on the work front. The Swiss appreciate hard workers, you won't have a problem with the right attitude."

I should probably have spent more time studying and less time checking out the chyxx at Clifton. But you're right, the memories wouldn't compare

OMG.....where did all you Afrikaaners pop out from??
Welcome to the forum, boet....(and thats all the Afrikaans that I can remember, almost failed that subject!!)

I hope that you settle in well, and find something to keep you busy
. though a job as a driving instructor is not a bad job, quiet lucrative.
