Re: Tips on how to make cocktails & house parties
I usually go for whisky based cocktails when entertaining.
Nice and simple - Whisky Old Fashioned - although can be adapted rather well with good quality Tequila, Cognac or Rum.
If you want something a little more punchy, you could always try a Sazerac, but you need a rye whisky / absinthe / peychards bitters to do it justice (anyone know where to buy in Zurich for when I need to stock up my supplies)
Manhattans are a good one for parties, because you can do with some flair...I like to premake small 200ml bottles of premade Manhattan, and then keep in the fridge. Needs kirsh cherries to finish fully, although twists of orange and simple ice can work nicely too.
If you want something you can do in large amounts - cheats pimms.
Bols Blue, Gin (or vodka if that is your thing), Martini Rosso and a dash of angostora bitters. You can mix up the quantities of the main three to produce something of whatever strength and mix of flavour you desire.
