Porridge no more?

Hi All. I've not actually moved to Switzerland yet, but it's looking very imminent, as soon as my fiance's prospective employers decide that he's just what they're looking for. (Of course he is!)
At the moment we're living in Aberdeen, but to tell the truth I can't wait for a new move and a new adventure.
I worked in Switzerland about 20 yrs ago in Leysin, Vaud and had a great time while there. Here's hoping my next stay will be just as good.
We're hoping to buy a house, but having read some of the house-buying stories on the forum...it's quite a scarey thought. Never mind.....fore-warned is fore-armed as they say!(I can see us having lots of questions to ask about buying etc. etc. Apologies in advance .)
I couldn't think of a name, so decided to use my position as mother to the feline member of the family. I know....corny or what?

Cheers ....Shona

Re: Porridge no more?

hi Oscarsmum, welcome to EF!

What part of Switzerland are you and your fiance looking at moving to? I hope everything works out job-wise, and I'm crossing my fingers for you.

But what does porridge-no-more mean??

Re: Porridge no more?

Shona, I've been in Lausanne for month having left Edinburgh because my boyfriend has got a job here. Don't worry, the oats here are great, although there's not the choice you get in Scotland.

I would bring some black tea with you though...

Re: Porridge no more?

Hi..We're hoping to move to somewhere in the area surrounding Baden- and we've got our fingers crossed too.The sooner the better.
'Porridge no more' is a bit obscure.....it's a play on words from a song by a Scottish group (The Proclaimers) who sing about leaving Scotland and all the places they'll miss. I changed it to porridge because that's one of our 'supposed' national dishes, and if you move you might not be able to get it wherever you go.

Re: Porridge no more?

Hi.. Believe it or not I'm from Edinburgh too. I've lived in Aberdeen for the last six years. ( Trinity Academy FP)
I don't know why I put that porridge bit in, apart from to catch the eye of any Scots (and hey- it worked!), because I can't stand the stuff. Now Special K....that's a different matter.

Call yourself a Scot when you don't like porridge . Another one from Edinburgh here, I think there are quite a few of us around. Good luck with your move.

Re: Porridge no more?

I'm not Scottish but I love porridge .

Shona, keep us posted how your move is going. Mr. Bartholemew and I are also headed to Baden (from Zurich), but not until next summer.

Re: Porridge no more?

You could try the COOP here for Porridge. I don't think Migros sell the stuff.
