Living in Lausanne

Hello!

My name is Stevie, im moving to Lausanne in February to coach football.

Does anyone know of any groups who meet up for a wee kick about on a weekly basis? or any Grassroots club/school needing a professional coach?

Also, how much would you need to earn to live comfortably on your own if a flat is 800 CHF per month?

Stevie

Re: Living in Lausanne

I can hardly watch..........

Welcome to Lausanne, you're about to receive alot of stick in a minute for not using the search function at the top of the page. Every topic you can imagine has already been covered and tons of advice been given out. Including how much it costs to rent, how much you need to survive, and a thread about football in Lausanne (that never really took off).

If you're thinking of renting out a flat for yourself I think you may really struggle to find something for 800chf. From my experience, for a reasonable flat in a half decent location its 1500chf min, and you'd be very lucky to get that.

Welcome again and happy reading!

(Just realised you said you're not moving to Feb, so a preemptive welcome!)

Re: Living in Lausanne

Uh oh... I hope the masses aren't too harsh!

I gather that there's not much football played in Lausanne amongst adults?

I've managed to get in contact with 2 people both offering a flat for 800 CHF, although most of the other ones i have seen are between 1000 and 2000.

Here's hoping that i've landed a bargain!

There is no decent flat available in Lausanne for 800. Be careful as this may be a scam. For more advice, you could give us more info on this flat.

There is lots of well organised adult football in Switzerland - just check out www.football.ch

I spoke with one woman on email and that was the impression i had, i emailed my girlfriend saying it had the 'the feel or a Nigerian bank account scam'.
As a salesman, i get the impression that they've gone for the sale too quickly and they just want the cash, although it may be just a way of getting quick cash.
Thoughts?

Re: Living in Lausanne

Let me say the same thing in exactly the same way and maybe you'll get it.

There are NO decent flats available IN Lausanne for 800CHF a month. It's probably a scam.

Where did you find this ad? Please post it for us to inspect for you.

If you are lucky you can find a flat share for that.

(Ok, Ok, you might find one or two, some subsidized ones and some tiny 20-25m2 ones. But again "decent" is the key word)

Re: Living in Lausanne

I can tell you already that 800 is impossible. For Lausanne think around 1500, at the cheap end of the market. You can just about get a room in a shared flat with 3 or 4 others at that price.

All the ads on that site are scams. The ones in German are scams. No one would put an add in German for an apartment in Lausanne. The English one is a scam no one puts "hours of sunlight" and all that other rubbish on the bottom and um 2 bedrooms for 800?? Not on your life.

The first one studio for 950 sounds more reasonable. But why take the chance? 90% of ads on that sight are scams. Why they don't take that down is beyond me.

Look at homegate.ch, glocals.ch, wrg.ch and here.

Re: Living in Lausanne

Hi,

I live in Vaud and have been looking to move since July... and those look fishy to me... as others have said, the rent is very low for the size mentioned, and also just the fact that the ads are in English (or German) - most of the adverts here are in French, funnily enough!

I've never heard of that website either. I can PM you a list of websites if you're interested.

Also, not to put a damper on your plans... but you're going to have fun finding an apartment, if you (as your first post seems to indicate) don't have a certain salary / firm job offer. To apply for a legitimate apartment, you will need:

3 salary slips / bank statements showing income.
If the above are not avaliable, a letter promising you a job from a certain date, mentioning your proposed salary ('Offre d'embauche').
If you're moving within Switzerland, a letter from the 'Office de Poursuites' saying you have no debts. You will generally have to provide an original for them to copy (or give them an original and a copy).
If the above is not avaliable, you will probably need a guarantor (a resident in Switzerland who is willing to guarantee that you will pay your rent (and pay it if you can't), and they will have to provide the above letter.
A copy of your permit. If you don't have one, you'll definitely need some kind of promise of employment.
A copy of your passport.
Proof of contents insurance and personal liability insurance (I had to provide this when moving to Switzerland, which meant I had to take it out at my parents' address 3 months before I moved).

I think that's everything... oh, and in order to get the appartment you will have to pay a deposit of 3 months rent.

And in my experience you also have to be 'on the spot', as agencies generally will not let to someone who has not visited the apartment previously to applying, and expect you to sign the lease in person. Or have someone willing to be a co-lessor to visit the apartment and sign the contract for you.

Hope that helps...

This is fantastic! I've been searching for what the process is for months but found it difficult to get a straight answer!
I will recieve a contract in the next couple of days - and im looking for extra work.
My girlfriend lives in Vufflens-le-chateau so i will be over to view a few flats with her before agreeing to take one on. Thankfully saying that ive a flat at 800 CHF in Lausanne has prompted a few responses and confirmed what i suspected, but hoped would be a bargain.

Again, thank to all for the advice

Experience.

They are just not the correct "format". I think I mentioned above. Lausanne is French speaking. 2 ads for 2 different apartments in German? Um, no. This is an add from someone who doesn't know anything about Switzerland and probably copied it from some where not realizing it's the wrong language for the region.

2 rooms for 800, not likely. And you'll NEVER find a 2 bedroom flat for 800. That's a fact. That ad flip flopped from 2 room to 2 bedroom. That's also a sign they don't know the market. 2 rooms is different from 2 bedrooms.

The 30m2 studio for 950 is more like it. Plus he has his Swiss cell # listed. At least that person knows the phone # format... But again, with so many scams on that site, why take chances even with one that looks legit?

Look on other sites. Stay off that one.

Makes me laugh when I see these e-mails, and when bored I do like winding these people up. Has anyone heard of a book called 'Delete This at Your Peril'. I haven't read it but saw a review. Its about a Scottish fella who replys to all these sorts of e-mails to get funny reactions.
