Coming to Lugano!!

Hello everyone,

I am a British nanny coming to Lugano for the year at the beginning of February. I am looking for any advice on what I need to bring with me, such as clothes for this time of year and shoes etc. I would love to meet new people as I will be staying for a while! I have heard fantastic things about Lugano and the photo's look gorgeous, I can't wait to start exploring!

If anybody has any useful information for me it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Jenny

Hello, thank you for the welcome. No I haven't seen that, had enough trouble finding out how to start a thread! Will have a look at that now, thank you.

Thanks for that will start a list of what food I should bring. Could you please advice me on what clothes I will need for this time of year? Is there currently any snow? Will I need thermals or will trousers and a thick coat be enough? I don't want to arrive at my new job and be completely unprepared.

Thank you in advance.

Jenny

Re: Coming to Lugano!!

Lugano itself very rarely gets snow and it really doesn't even get down to freezing very often. It's the most gentle climate in Switzerland. That doesn't mean you can drink coffees outdoors on the plazas the whole year round, but you have more chance of doing so than most places in Switzerland.
You're going to need warmer clothes if you go into the mountains of if you explore the rest of Switzerland and the mountains are really on your doorstep there.
Finally, don't forget, there are shops in Lugano, that sell clothes (albeit at rather expensive prices compared to the UK), that you can hop over the border to Italy for more reasonable prices (Milan is only about 1 hour away by train).

Outlet City Vs Foxtown

Foxtown Mendrisio: ever been there?

I still find shopping in the UK more affordable though.
