musician from NYC

Hi, just moved here from New York City to be with my high school sweetheart.(Long story, let's meet for a coffee and I'll tell you all about it.) I am 44, newly married, and a little lost. I'm sure many of you must feel this way relocating here. I've been here for a month now, and I guess it's starting to sink in... Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore!!!
I am a singer/songwriter, and play acoustic guitar and piano. I think I need to find some musicians here to form my own band, play and record my music. I also need to start networking, and finding out about the music scene in the Zurich/Winterthur area. What's the scoop?
I'm also currently unemployed (worked for the US Postal Service in NY), and I start German school on Monday. Hopefully some basic language skills will help me find a job. Otherwise, I'm doomed!
And lastly, though I feel strange saying it, I'd like to meet some new friends. I am in Nurensdorf, near the Flughafen between Zurich and Winterthur.
So, feel free to contact me, and we can meet for the aforementioned coffee for starters.

And thanks for reading my post all the way to the end!

Martin

Re: musician from NYC

Cool, I lived in the east village for about 4 years. I'm an amateur sound engineer, producer. I haven't been able to get out to check out the night life, I'd rather hang out and be creative in my leisure. maybe we can hang out sometime. c

Re: musician from NYC

This stuff is kind of old... most of my current songs have yet to be recorded. I record this stuff in my bedroom, no studio or expensive equipment to make it sound professional LOL!!! But it's what I have for now.

Hi, welcome to the forum. I'll send you a PM, maybe we can meet up. I'm also a singer/songwriter (also recording for some bands) and have a cool studio setup at home. I'm based the wrong side of Zurich for you, but play regularly in Winterthur.

Good luck with the german classes and job hunt.

Re: musician from NYC

hi martin welcome to switzerland! i'm from ny too! it's a bit getting used to all of it, yea, a month into and it can be a kind of shock. we are far, but if you have time you are welcome for a visit in lausanne (and a beer!). not a musician but my brothers (whole family) are and my husband works in music and knows alot about the 'scene' (hehehehe) so he can definitely discuss that with you!

doing your best by looking for things to do- that's the way to make your way, i think. while your not working, try to get out as much as you can and take trips. if you can afford an abonnement general (unlimited yearly ticket) do it and take advantage of it. the language will come as you use it, so maybe find a tandem partner who wants to improve english. things here are so different from nyc, but they can be areally welcome surprise.

i won't even make a postal joke- my papa was a postal worker too, you're not all crazy

Re: musician from NYC

Hi and welcome to the Forum. You got me all confused though- since when is Kansas in NYC

Got a friend who has a great recording studio in France, just over the border near Pontarlier, if you ever need one. He is a great Toto fan and his son Matthieu, 15, has played with Steve Lukather a few times.

Look at
