New family of 4 in Lausanne

Hi all

in less than a week I will move with my hubby and our two kids of 1 and 3 years to Lausanne

My husband has a job in Neuchatel where he has been working since October; still we decided to relocate to Lausanne instead of Neuchatel, hoping it would be easier for me to find a job too, once settled (maybe commuting to Geneve)

I had to quit my job (sigh) in order to come to Switzerland and reunite the family, but I hope that with a 7-year experience in corporate banking and an MBA degree I will find something (only B1 level French though)

In the meantime I will focus on helping the children (and myself!) to settle in and find local friends.

I have been reading EF posts for months and have found here loads of useful information, so I would like to thank all the contributors!

by the way, we are Italian (children are passive bilingual with English)

Valeria

Welcome to Lausanne!

You made the right choice, you'll be much better here than in Neuchâtel jobwise. Enjoy the town, it's a great place to live!

Hi,
Very exciting, hope your move goes well, we will be a few months behind you but have just accepted contract to move to Lausanne, est start date 1st August. I will look forward to hearing how you get on in anticipation of our move. Which part of Lausanne will you live and have you found somewhere yet?

Noth,
hope so 'cause it was my decision!!
I am forcing my husband to commute for 2,5 hours a day (and -for now- myself to take care of the kids alone for that extra time)

Yorkfamily,
we will live in Bethusy, 5 mins from Ours station. We knew some friends living in Lausanne and soon repatriating to Germany, we proposed to take over their apartment and the régie surprisingly accepted us (without formal viewing). We were therefore very lucky as we did not have to spend time looking for apartments and preparing many applications, but in return the apartment is not exactly like the one we would have looked for otherwise.

Thanks for the wishes and I'll be glad to assist future movers sending my contacts by PM!

Valeria

Hi, I don`t live in Lausanne but have lived in Switzerland for over seven years now - and like it.
Since I know how it is to come here new with small children I just wanted to tell you about themamicafe.com which is like Facebook for international moms in Switzerland. You can easily connect with moms in your region and also meet up for organized Coffee mornings twice a month.

I wish you good luck on your move!

I live on avenue de Bethusy , and I hope to see you at the puericultrice drop-in coffee morning at the Chailly Maison de Quartier...every Monday from 9-11 am. It's a great place to meet other parents, and a lot of us speak English. PM me if you want more information when you get here.

It's a great neighbourhood in terms of location: there are good supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, parks, doctors etc all within walking distance. Avenue de Bethusy itself is a very busy road, which is the only downside in my opinion.

Re: New family of 4 in Lausanne

Hi, my youngest son - seven years - will be coming with us to Lausanne. The others are in boarding school. We want him to attend a local primary school and have heard that St Sulpice has a good one. Do you have any tips on primary schools? My son is a tough one having grown up in the bush in Africa, but I am sure he will experience some culture shock. Many thanks.

Thanks to all!

The move went smoothly, the apartment is cozy, I love seeing the snowy mountains and the lake when I step outside... I think these first 10 days have been really good.

Hi there, and welcome - I've been in Lausanne for the past 3 months too and have an 11 month old son (I'm always looking for activities to keep him busy). Also moved for my husband's work, he commutes to Geneva. If you would like to meet up, let me know!

Hi and welcome Vortona. I've been hoping to go to Chailly Maison de Quartier too. Will you and/or kslausanne be there on Monday? I'd love to meet you both (although, tbh I had resolved to go to improve my French with the other mums...oh well;-))

I'd be happy to meet you too! My daughter just turned one. At what time does it start in the Maison de Quartier?
