Indian moving to Lausanne

Hello Everybody,

I've been going through this forum for a month now and have got quite a few information regarding Switzerland.
I'm an Indian and will be moving to Lausanne with my wife soon. I work as a Software Developer in a MNC and I'll be going to client site there.
Very usually I've lots of queries regarding almost everything.
I need somebody who is willing to be disturbed by my questions .
Can somebody staying in Lausanne reply to this thread so that I can start conversation with him/her?
Hoping to see a reply soon.
Cheers!!

If you search, you'll find links to tax calculators that will tell you your expected net income. What you have there, however, is a good income that many here would be glad to have.

Any praise will be less for your apartment, William.
It is truly beautiful.
But we only need basic furnishing (a bed with mattress, gas/electric equipped kitchen, dining table, a few racks and tables, a tv will be a great value-add) and a studio apartment as it'll be easier for my wife to keep it clean.

That salary is high enough to afford something nice than just a basic studio flat, without being extravegant. You can find one that has at least a bedroom separate from the lounge.

Furnished flats are not common in the low/medium price range, but it actaully does not take that mouch money ( I was happy to find out) to buy basic furnishings, especially as a lot of very nice things are frequently offered by other people who are leaving the country. I quickly realised that the cvost of buying furniture was a much cheaper option than paying for a furnished flat.

You and your wife will not find it difficult or time consuing to clean a one bedroomed flat.

Thanks a lot for your reply biff.
Could you please help me out with a website where I can see furniture prices in Switzerland?
I'll get some idea about the setup expenditure then.

If you are grossing CHF 9500/mo and have a housing allowance of CHF 1500, I would find a nicely furnished 1br apartment in the mid 2K range...costing you relatively little but affording you a nice central location, safe apartment, etc.

Have a look at the Ikea site for Switzerland, which will give you a basic idea for generic type items. Also, watch for the items being sold on this site - often very good condition, low usage and very cheap. (sometimes free.) :-)

Welcome to the EF, catch99.

I too moved in from India about two years ago, and EF was (still is in fact) the best source for all information re life in CH.

Here are a few links to websites that make your search for housing, transport, etc easier. Comparis.ch is of course very good.

FURNITURE
ikea.ch
jumbo.ch
conforama.ch

CAR
autoscout24.ch

FREE CLASSIFIED (French part) anibis.ch

LANGUAGE COURSES
ecoleagora.ch
ecole-club.ch

Hope this helps, and enjoy your stay in Lausanne, by far the prettiest city in Switzerland, as far as I am concerned.

Hi SVA,

Thanks for replying.
I'm going to check the websites.
Can you please guide me about a good pre-paid connection for phone and may be a calling card which will let me call to India for free

Calling cards you can find various at Post office etc though not sure if there exists one to let you make free phone calls. Google out for pre-paid sim for switzerland and you will see various options. Search function in english forum is very helpful.
Cheers

To call abroad (and in Switzerland) I'm happy with the Lebara pre-paid sim-card. Check their website, they have good offers. You can get the sim-cards and buy recharge in most newsagents.
