New here

Hi. I am actually a Swiss citizen, as well as an Italian citizen. I was born near Zurich, left at age 10 to move to Italy with my Swiss mother and Italian dad. At 20 I moved to California. I speak enough Swiss German to get around ( with a native accent ) but not enough to feel confident in a formal/ employment setting. I speak German with a better accent than most Swiss, but my vocabulary is limited. I also speak fluent Italian and Spanish.
I am considering returning to Switzerland in the next 5 years. I have been visiting every other year for the past 35 years and have uncles and aunts and cousins.
I chose this Forum as the first place to begin talking about my thoughts of returning.

Re: New here

Hi, and welcome tothe EF!

If you're keen to come back to Switzerland, don't let language get in the way ... many of us came here with no German (and especially no Swiss German!), and no family contacts ... so you'll have a big advantage on us!

Thanks for the replies!
I will move on the more specific questions in the appropriate forums. Glad to be among what seems to be a very friendly online community.

Re: New here

what's up guys? I'm new to EF, too. But yeah, I moved back to zurich from NJ last year after 7 years of not living here and almost completely forgetting the language... I'm telling you... it was uncomfortable at first but as soon as you get connected, the language comes back like a SNAP. hopefully that helped

Re: New here

Same shoes :-D moved back after 14 years... Had forgotten my high German totally ( the speaking part) and my family called me "ami" for fun, cause I couldn't get rid of my rolling accent!
Well I'm still here after almost 3 years! Give if it a try
