New in Lugano

Hi Everyone!

Just moved to Lugano a few weeks ago for my husband's work. We're from California, and needless to say, it's very different here, but we're enjoying the change.

I don't speak much Italian, and I'm beginning to realize it's quite necessary in order to get a job here. Looking into Italian classes right now. Anyone have any recommendations of job sites for this area? Looking forward to working since I don't know many people here.

Thank you!!

Re: New in Lugano

Hi,

Sorry to disturb you, but I wondered if you had already moved into a permanent apartment or still in company accomadation?

The only reason I am asking is because I have a 2 bed, 2 bath apartment I am having to leave (I'm leaving Switzerland). I completely furnished it brand new in September 2011. I'm looking for someone to take over my rental contract, but to also buy my furniture from me - this would be perfect for anybody relocating to Switzerland.

The link to my advert is below, if you are looking for something permanent and you would be interested in viewing the apartment, please let me know.

And on a side note, but far more appropriate to your post - many companies in Lugano have English as their working language, so don't be put off by job searching by not speaking Italian.

Hi JoinLugano-

We actually have already moved into our permanent residence; thanks for reaching out though! Hopefully you find someone soon to take over your lease.

Thanks HeyZurich!

I definitely miss the variety of foods here lol, and with Mexican and sushi being my favorite, I'll probably take you up on that!

Re: New in Lugano

Just seen your post and hey Welcome to Lugano.

The Internations group is great and also The Internationals Womens Club is great place to also meet people as there are a lot of younger people who are there now . ( not that I know how old you are)

What sort of job are you looking for ? I have a friend who works for a job agency and may be able to help. Perhaps pm me and let me know

Enjoy the sun, its lovely here today!

Best wishes

Caroline

Re: New in Lugano

And once you've mastered Italian, you may even want to consider looking as far afield as Milan, Italy for work. Huge city, and only an hour away on a direct train.

And welcome

Thank you both for the warm welcome and suggestions. I've joined Internations, and will also look into the International Women's Club.

Re: New in Lugano

Hello!

I m 27 and recently moved to Lugano fron Geneva. Like many new people here, I also find it hard to meet people. I have been doing Italian for 2 months now and I thought that this would open up opprtunities to socialize. Well, I have to admit I haven't been so successful.

Are there any events / bars expats gather?
