Wanted two cats or kittens, where to start?

My family and I relocated to Switzerland a year and a half ago, and live in the Alps in Villars - Vaud.

We are now in a position to adopt or buy two kittens or cats wanting a home and now feel settled enough over here to provide a great home. We would like two to keep eachother company, preferably two from the same litter. Kittens are great, or child friendly older cats - although our daughter is 13 and a real cat lover. Indoor or outdoor cats are fine, we have a garden, chalet, but no cat flap.

My French is very limited and German non existent, does anyone know where we could start to look for cats? We would like to adopt/buy this month. My husband works in Geneva, so any where this side of Switzerland is fine.

Many thanks for your help.

Re: Wanted two cats or kittens, where to start?

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

I would look into animal shelters, since there are way too many cats/kittens/animals in general being abandoned or given up because they "failed" as a gift for a child, nobody wanted to take responsibility for them etc...

Please make sure you get to know the owners well before adopting a pet, and also make sure they provide you with thorough information on the animal's health situation.

Don't do anything rash and don't "buy because they're cute"

Look into EF's Pet Corner and please read this thread:

Re: Wanted two cats or kittens, where to start?

Many thanks for the swift reply. No absolutly, have had many cats before married life, and indeed almost all of them were rescue cats who lived a long life with us. We have wanted cats for a long time, but knew it would be unfair given our travelling up until now. We will certainly look into it carefully before adoption at the health history of the cats.
Many thanks for the links.

Take a look to the SPA in Nyon (Animal shelter). They also have a cattery and my cats stay there when I we are away. They speak English!!! Lots of cats to choose (and dogs) and very friendly and helpfull. I also got my cats from a shelter in the US and they are very great cats. One were four month and the other one 18month old when we adopted them. Think about to give older cats a chance!
