Johanna has no particular reputation at present
Hello from Seattle

Hiya. My name is Johanna and I have just moved from Seattle to Zürich. Seattle is a great place- everyone should visit in the summer! It is home to the Alpine Lakes and has many "Alp-like" areas- terrific hiking, glaciers, and volcanoes. Now I can enjoy the real Alps...once they show themselves. Looks like around Springtime?

I am excited to find out where to cross country ski, snowboard and hike when the weather related to those activities happen. I plan on traveling a bunch and hopefully meeting some friendly people along the way!

Until then,
Ciao.

Welcome, you'll love it here. I'm a pacific Northwester myself and my dream is scoring a position at Univ. Wash. when I move back.

No No No! Remember, you're supposed to tell people Seattle is a horrible place, it rains all the time there and if summer occurs on a weekend we have a picnic! ;-) I don't know if you remember reading any Emmitt Watson stuff in the Seattle PI or not.

Welcome to Switzerland. You'll find the people here to be about the same as those in Seattle. As in, they mostly mind there own business and leave folks alone.

There are ferryboats in the area to ride on if you feel homesick. There are some on the Bodensee (Lake Constance) and on Lake Zurich that you can even drive your car on.

Unlike the Cascades, it's the winter season that we usually get the sunny weather here. The Alps should be out in all their glory in just a few more days. The views are exceptional in February.

Oh, and if you're a fan of micro-brews, you'll want to check out the Rappi Bier Factory in Rapperswil. They've got some of the few beers that are like those in Seattle.

Re: Hello from Seattle

Welcome to Switzerland! I'm from Olympia and find the weather a bit similar to the Pacific Northwest. Skiing is much closer (no more getting up at 5.30 to go skiing at Crystal), the winters more wintery (a little bit of snow won't close down the schools) and we don't usually get months of rain at a time.

If you can get used to getting by without large-sized coffees, you'll settle in just fine.

On the other hand, night skiing is sparse to non-existent here. No more leaving the office at 5:30pm and heading up for ski racing at Snoqualmie Scummit/Alpental after work. It was great to work in Eastgate and be only 45 minutes from the slopes.
