New to Au, Wadenswil and the EF!

Hello everybody

I discovered the English forum when it popped up on google every time I searched for help or advice, I use it so much its about time I introduced myself!

I moved to Switzerland 14 months ago with my husband and 2 little girls aged 4 & 2 we recently moved to Au, Wadenswil to escape the aircraft noise over Bassersdorf and to be by the lake!
I am a registered nurse in England but not working here, enjoying life looking after my girls and other half in this beautiful country. We have made a permanent move from England to give our two girls a broader horizon and another language and although we miss family, as I'm sure everybody does, we have settled and are happy here!

I enjoy running and keeping active, cooking, coffee & cake with friends and spending time with my family!

Hopefully with some time I repay the invaluable info on here with some advice of my own!

Welcome!

Good choice of place to live. (Although I am biased ).

I think Au's a wonderful place to bring up a young kids. Good schools and Kindergartens.

Regarding running, the Halbinsel is a great place for a quick run and there are a lot of trails above Au that lead to Horgenberg, the Albis ridge and beyond.

Re: New to Au, Wadenswil and the EF!

Thanks for the reply and the tips on where to run, I've only ran by the lake so far so I'll check that out and we are just discovering the joys of having the strand bad on our doorstep with the lovely weather!

My eldest daughter starts kindergarten in august, any info on when they contact you to tell you when and where?

Hi Loopylou,

I'm directly opposite you on the other side of the lake (Meilen). We often get the car ferry over and walk or cycle along that side of the lake. It really is lovely. And we just did a great walk in the Horgenberg on the weekend.

Welcome!

Kate

Apparently they should contact you any day now - and at least before the end of June.

I assume you're already registered with the Gemeinde in Waedenswil?

Did you fill in the form to register your child for Kindergarten whilst you were there?
There's one online here.

Re: New to Au, Wadenswil and the EF!

Hello LoopyLou, we have been in Au for about three years and have loved it. We are over near the kennels so a bit further away from this metropolis called Au.

Regarding kindergarten, we did get contacted as we are registered with Au. You should be contacted soon as Tom1234 mentioned. I run along the lake and am currently training for the Zurich Triathlon, good luck with keeping in shape.

We have boys only and therefore probably won't be good for playdates, we also have older kids. Good luck with your move, you will love it here!

Hello

Thanks for the warm welcome

I'm hoping that my girls will go to Au Kindergarten as we are only five minutes away! We are enjoying the quiet and amazing views here as we were living in the centre of Bassersdorf with 2xchurch bells, town hall bells, directly in the flight path and overlooking a youth club & the area where every fete, festival, party etc was held!
Wow good luck with the triathlon, I'd like to think I'd be doing a marathon or run of some sort in the future, I love running here I don't get to go as often as I'd like due to childcare so maybe when I can train more when they're older!

Feeling more at home already thanks peeps

There are four Kindergartens in Au. Hopefully they'll send your child to the one nearest you. They normally do.

Greetings LoopyLou

From another Wädi resident. It is a nice area, particularly the foreshore around the horn at Au.

Welcome, and good choice of location. We started out in Waedi when we moved over here from the UK. We are now a couple of Ks down the road in Rictherswil.

Thanks peeps

Just returned from the hallenbad, views from up there amazing! And was thinking of trying out the strand bad at richterswil at some point soon,it's been recommended, is it quite obvious how to get there once off the train?
Hopefully the sun will shine again tomorrow so we can spend the day at the Au lakeside area!

From the platform, go under the subway to the lake side of the railway and facing the lake, go right for about 100m along the footpath and the entrance is on your left.

It is quite obvious, but there are two beaches in Richterswil so even if you go one way or the other you'll find one. They are rocky though. Further up there is a very small one in Bach. It it more clay feeling on the toes. It's better to take the train to Richterswil when it's really hot or on the weekend, because wether you take an hour to find a parking spot or walk from the trains station, it will be still a bit of a walk. And no stress about it.

Re: New to Au, Wadenswil and the EF!

I actually quite like the one at Pfaffikon SZ a bit further on. It's free and has a sandy beach and is quite shallow for a bit so it's good for the kids when they're young.
It also has a paddling pool.

Five minutes walk along footpaths from Pfaffikon railway station.
