Howdy, I am a Canadian living for a year in Baden

As you can tell from the title and my username, I've come over from Calgary to live in Baden and work with ABB for a year. I arrived 5 days ago and I am loving it so far.

I speak a small amount of German and it is fine for signs and websites, but I am finding it extremely difficult to talk to people here, hopefully that will improve with time.

I want to spend most of the summer hiking and most of the winter skiing, with the seasons in between for travelling. Are there any places I must go or you would recommend?

So is there anything I need to know about this forum? I haven't explored here much yet and I am making up the format of this introduction, let me know if you want any more information.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I hope you settle in well, I think most people adjust in stages, you'll have to let us know what you think when the dust settles a little more.

As for how things work here on the forum, there is a great Search function in the top right corner to search for all manner of topics (social events, permit stuff, complaints, regional issues, etc). This can be a place of connection that makes you laugh, or of conflict and negativity - choose your words wisely and remember that here, just like in every country, there are kind souls and douchecanoes.

Hello and welcome to the English Forum.

There are lots of events on the various calendars where you may like to attend and everyone is welcome. There's an informal drinks night in Zurich Thursday evening at the Viadukt.

Re. the Forum. Just remember everything online is there forever and there are lots of people at ABB who are members here, so save bitchin' for drinks nights

Thanks everyone. I will probably meet some of you at drinks night once I settle in a bit more, and so it doesn't seem like I am abandoning the friends I came here with.

Hi! Welcome. I'm originally from Edmonton and also currently living in Aargau. I hope you had a great hiking season, too bad I just read this thread now, otherwise I could've given you some tips
