Moving to Luzern in July!

Greetings! My wife and I are moving to Luzern (or somewhere very close) next month from Philly in the US. We're heading over next week to find an apartment. We expect to be there 2-4 years.

If there is anyone here that lives in the area and has any advice on anything, I'd love to hear it.

We'll be having a baby in September (our first). We're pretty outdoorsy, but still city people. We're moving for her work so I'm probably going to be the stay at home Dad.

Thanks!

Re: Moving to Luzern in July!

Hi there

I live in the Basel area and have 3 kids and I just wanted to mention that you may want to consider buying all your baby equipment in the US before you arrive. It is much cheaper over there and you have far more choice!

Hi Elichten

Congratulations on your pending addition to the family and the up-coming adventure in CH. Luzern is a BEAUTIFUL city and we (hubby, 2.5 yr old baby girl and I) are moving there too We have an apartment there that we had to reserve 1.5 years ago .

I hope you can find a decent place for you, your wife and baby that's suitable for you all.

We'll be renting out the apartment we're in now once we're gone

If you're interested, the general details are:
4.5 Rm. 110mē Apartment 38kms + 40mins from Luzern for rent, 1790 + 310 expenses (water, house admin, etc etc.) per month Generous sized apartment with a southerly facing balcony in the 1st floor with alp views.

3 spacious bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large living area.

Walk to the primary school and mini market in 2 minutes without crossing the road .

Next to Switzerland's second largest nature reserve.

Send me a private message if you'd like to see pics and more details.

It would be a bit of a drive/train ride for your wife, but you drive in to Luzern against the really bad traffic in to Zurich. My husband and I drive the same route to work at the moment.

If you don't have any luck closer to Luzern, maybe it would be an OK option. The local families are really friendly here and it's a lovely area for a little baby to grow up with all the farm animals, grassy fields and walk ways along the river etc around.

All the best either way

Puddy

Re: Moving to Luzern in July!

Thanks for the info! We've heard this before and are stocking up. Should we also be stockpiling things like food and diapers?

Re: Moving to Luzern in July!

Kids clothing - I would say its worthwhile - my sister lives in US and she buys tons of stuff for me there and brings it over when she visits. Its much cheaper and there is far more variety (I guess it depends on whether you know if its a girl or boy as well!!)

Diapers - well they are certainly way cheaper in the US but is depends on who is paying for your move - if its your wife's new company, then probably worth it yes!

But its more then big items like cot, pushchair, baby swing etc which I was thinking of.
