On my way to Basel!

Hello everyone, another newcomer to Basel here!

I'm a Brit, 40 years old, have lived in Denmark for the last 6 years and am now quite excited that I have recently accepted a job in Basel (with one of the tho big pharma companies) and will be starting in early September.

I'm very much enjoying reading the forum and finding out about all things Swiss from an expat point of view, and can't wait to get there and to meet new people and get involved in fun activities as soon as I can.

Re: On my way to Basel!

Welcome to sunny Basel. Hopefully you have a relocation package which includes an apartment for 3 months - but make sure it is a nice one and not too far from the centre of town while you find your way round. You can also get a car included fir 3 months. You should also look if they give you assistance in finding anew place. Check out homegate.ch for searching for apartments.

Your choices come to Basel Stadt or Land. Practically everywhere is safe but some areas have nicer housing and less crowded than others. BL is cheaper for taxes and health insurance. Good luck. PM me if you need any help.

Welcome to Basel. Its a nice little city and if you like to explore - its so easy to get out and about by plane, train, and my favorite - bicycle.

Hope to see you at an event soon.

Re: On my way to Basel!

So far this summer the weather is wonderful! You'll love it, that is if you're not working too much. Flat searching can be difficult hopefully you have assistance within your relo package. Once you recover from sticker shock, you'll enjoy this town.

Re: On my way to Basel!

Thanks for the new welcomes. Regarding sticker shock...I've been in Denmark for the last 6 years so I hope I'll have been slightly de-sensitised to that, or at least slightly better prepared!

And thankfully I get help with flat searching with my package, as well as 3 months temp accommodation at first. I hope I get the address in advance so I can get some advice on the area. 3 months can feel like a long time when you're living above a seedy strip bar and below a crack den as I did when I first arrived in Denmark. Really want to avoid that experience this time
