Coming soon to the outskirts of Zurich...

Hello everyone. We're moving to Switzerland at the end of Oct and we still have no idea what city we'll actually be living in. I have to find a rental around Wetzikon but it is so hard to find a realtor since I don't speak German. HELP!

I suggest you look at the forums section as they have info. about your problem. The first entry is about FAQs and should start you off. Also have a look a homegate.ch/en which is in English.

Hello. Good to know you are moving to Switzerland.

I was in the same situation like you three months ago. I had to find a apartment in Wetzikon but I couldn't get any. Since its an industrial place I would suggest you look in near by places like Pfaffikon ZH, Kempton, Uster, etc. I finally managed to find a apartment in Pfaffikon ZH.

Renting an apartment is big process here and its not easy to finalize everything from US. In a nutshell you should first get an appointment to see the apartment, then apply and if you are shortlisted you will be called for interview and finally if they are OK you will get the apartment. This process takes at least a month. You better find a temporary accommodation for couple of months and once you come here start looking for apartment.

Hey!

Welcome to the forum and good luck with looking for an apartment.

I live in Pfaeffikon zh too. My advice.... Move quickly!! As in get yourself organized in looking for an apartment.

Homegate.ch is a great website. Pfaeffikon is a very desirable place to live as its got it's own lake, great connections to Zurich ( only 29 mins by train) and its 45 mins to the nearest ski resort.

Uster is much bigger and will have more selection of apartments. There are lots of new apartments being built too. It's less attractive on the forest or lake side but it depends what you're looking for.

We chose Pfaeffikon because we have several animals and needed the outdoor space. But Uster has a lot more shops and more English speaking people.

Good luck !!!
