Hello everyone from England!

Hello everyone! My names Callum, nice to meet you on here!

So, yeah I would like to move to Switzerland and move on. Where I am it's rubbish! And my friend who recently moved there to be with his mum and dad! And he is also my best friend, we went to school together. We're both now 21/22.

So I have just been researching before I take any further!

So once again, hello everyone!

Hello Callum!
Good luck with your potential move to Switzerland. You are wise to do your research, hope you find what you need here.
Btw, this forum is full of people from all over the world who speak English ( amongst many other languages), not all from England.

Re: Hello everyone from England!

Hello and welcome to EF Callum! (Jules from B'mth here)
If I were you I would do a lot of research on it before moving to Switzerland. Also make sure you're confident with your German/French.

There are so many places to choose from and they are all different from each other (culture, language/accent, laws, costs, etc).

I myself moved to Delemont about 6 months and I'm still struggling to interact with the locals, on a daily basis, and adapt to their life style.

Transport (the train) is very good, which means you can go anywhere you want in Switzerland at a fair price and explore whatever interests you have in mind.

I wish you the best of luck mate!

Parts of Switzerland are rubbish, too. Make sure you pick wisely; although in a new country it's much easier to move around as there's less inertia.

Lets be honest an fair here, the 'worst' parts of Switzerland are still as good as or even better than any average part of the UK.

The worst parts of the UK on the other hand are comparable to less salubrious areas in third world countries.

I think you need to be honest here as well, it is all about opinion. While I love it here in Zurich there is a hell of a lot I miss about England, ive been all over the country, and in some places there is only so long waiting for a cow to fart can keep you entertained. Hes 21/22 will most likely think many places here are rubbish to.

What I meant when saying 'best', 'average', or 'worst' are measurable objective quality of life indicators like crime, unemployment, work opportunities, quality of housing stock, cleanliness and so on.

I'm sure you can live in Switzerland and be depressed or live in a dodgy decrepit east London council estate and despite that be very happy.

... where you can stay inside your apartment watching your bank balance grow without any interference or stimulation from the outside world.

Plus all your criteria are subjective. Quality of housing stock. many would rather live in a very well insulated 1970s grey concrete apartment with triple glazed windows, than a Victorian house with sash windows. Not me.

I lived in the centre of London for almost 15 years and had no experience of any crime at all. In Basel for 2.5 and have been broken in to. Population of London is bigger than all of Switzerland, before you start to throw weird stats around.

Not everyone is like that/you. Not everyone will agree that everything in Switzerland is better than England. You may - or you may be justifying a relocation - but it's far from universal.

That's why people, people able to move around, aren't all living in one single place on this planet.

I'm sure it wasn't in some dodgy council estate!

A good friend of mine lives in such an estate in Sheperd's Bush in London (fairly central) and has been robbed in broad daylight several times by local gangs of youngsters, he knows them well but doesn't even dare to call the police as the youngsters threatened to then harass his stay-at-home wife and their children.
He can't even move because he actually bought the flat he lives in and is now in negative-equity...

I don't think there is anywhere in CH where you could experience anything like this...

Re: Hello everyone from England!

It's all relative..some love Switzerland, some hate it..some are somewhere inbetween..it all depends on your personality, what you're looking for in life.We are all different. For some Switzerland is too quiet and somehow 'boring'..for others it's exactly what they've always wanted and needed..nature all around, peace and quiet etc. Many people that I know(especially with children)chose Switzerland as there is little crime and the salaries are high.
People without kids and younger people(Swiss included) tend to crave places with more of a vibe IMHO.
