Another Aussie!

Hello Everyone!

I'm an Australian (from Melbourne) who has just arrived in Switzerland. I'm a trailing spouse (such a depressing term don't you think!) who will be at home with the kids and am hoping to get the best out of this wonderful opportunity that has been given to us.

Our first week here has been interesting considering our limited German language skills but hope to change that shortly!!

It's a pleasure to make your acquaintances

Re: Another Aussie!

Hello and welcome to EF and Switzerland! I think moving anywhere new is always going to be a culture shock, especially if it's to the other side of the world. My best tip is to adopt a child-like curiosity rather than expecting things to be as they were back home, and not to be too hard on yourself if you don't hit the ground running. Walk before you try to run.

Re: Another Aussie!

Thanks guys for the warm welcome! It's certainly a culture shock but thankfully not as much as some other countries we've been to (on holidays only, not to live).

It's funny that our friends at home are jealous that we are "living the dream" here, but it's far from easy that's for sure. Although now I'm 'almost' comfortable with driving on the right hand side of the road, things are looking up!!!!!!!!!

...and seeing gorgeous mountains in every direction isn't too bad either!

Re: Another Aussie!

G'day Amashie

Welcome to beautiful CH. Don't hesitate to ask away and make good use of the search bar. A wealth of info hidden back there amongst all the ones and zeros. Also plenty of us Aussies here to lend an ear or a shoulder, whatever the case may be.

Viel Glück beim Deutsch lernen...
