Introduction :)

Pleasure to be here,i never could have imagined that a forum like this exists, but hey i admit i was wrong

First of all Hello,my name is Dejan, people call me Dean because of the uncertainty of the pronunciation here in Switzerland the Teachers used to call me Dezhan which sometimes busted my N*** but hey i was young.

I'am a Swiss,American,Serbian citizen (i like to call my self a Nomad,Gypsy or a Citizen of the world) but seriously now,yes i do have multiple citizenships,how?Well...
I was born ion Switzerland,my parents are from Serbia originally but they live here since 1970's and they are some of the hardest working people i have ever met in my life and also the biggest inspiration to me.As a kid my Grandma took me and my brother back to Belgrade while the parents lived and worked here, dreaming of one day coming back to Serbia and building a better life for all of us(boy were they wrong)

So we stayed in Belgrade till about 89 when things started to heat up so my Dad came and got us,took us back to Switzerland. His Ex Boss (my dad is retired now)helped us get our papers to live here again, because we did not have any and so a new life a new beginning started for all of us again.I went to school here from the 4th to 8th grade, started working at the Company where my Dad was employed(along with my brother also, talk about Family unity.Until my older Brother decided that he wanted to go to the States and become a Rockstar.

He Plays Guitar...i don't think he's any good but we won't tell him that.

So after we got our Swiss Citizenship's we got on a plane and off we went to La La Land formerly known as Los Angeles or City of Angeles.

We stayed at a Motel in Hollywood, and i gotta tell you that was pretty cool,a lot of famous people lived there, one famous person even committed suicide there, here's a hint, she sang ˝Piece of my Heart˝

My Bro did well over the next year and graduated from the same school as Gwen Stefani and some other famous and respected musicians, the MI (Music Institute)

After a fun year of meeting many interesting people and for the first time living on our own,it was time to return back to Switzerland.I can still remember how some of our Swiss friends would tell us...''Are you Crazyyyy, wtf are you gonna do here it's boooooring''
Well to me it wasn't...Switzerland was a place where my parents were,it was a place that took us in when we needed it the most,it was a place where i was born.So naturally i felt very connected to Switzerland and the people here.

So we're back....and guess what!!?It is kinda boring lol but we had a plan!
You see,my Bro and me will work like two Stallions for the next year, get enough money together and go back to LA!

And so we did.....
But this time around it was a whole different story, what will we do,i mean yeah we have enough money for the first Year but what then? Also based on our Visas we had to attend school, that's right so we went every day(well except on days we were not hungover)and what did we do?We studied English. Our Schoo,International School of Languages in Korea Town,5000 Asians and two white guys from Serbia,Switzerland or where ever we are from...So!

School Graduated!Check
Money?Work?Almost a 0

So guess what our Friend from Cypress suggests that we invest money into some kind of Internet Business, something about search engines and click trough programs and such...So we are thinking hey let's try it!We are young enough and stupid enough to invest our money into something that we have absolutely no idea about how it works! So Let's do it!

Keep in mind it's the beginning of the 90's and the Internet will be blooming, and it did!!!We made money!!!So much indeed that we did not know what to do with all of it!Hey i'm talking A Condo on Wilshire blvd. A 1957 Speedster, and a Jaguar in the garage, going out every night and week ends?yepp!!! VEGAS Baby!

But let me fast forward a few years!

Sooner, rather then later the Internet Bubble burst and sent to us back to the place we were when we just got to LA.

What now?I mean we are a couple of 20 and 24 year olds who for the first time in their live experienced Money,Wealth,Popularity and the all of the sudden BAM!Rock bottom my Friends...

True,we did not know how to deal with it,and we tried many different things from, comforting each other to actually cussing each other out and getting into fights. But eventually we just had to deal with it or go back to Switzerland.I kinda tried that a few times,i went back and forth but eventually ended up staying there again.

My Brother found his way of making money again in the same line of work, the internet. After all he was goo at it so why not build something new, from scratch,it will do him good i was sure of that.

And so he did.He created the biggest MP3 data base from the Ex YU music and charged for the downloads,he of course got in contact with the record companies first and made a deal.I mean they could care less. It's the 90's and it seemed almost as they did not have a clue what he was telling then he does.Their main concern was that no one sells their Cd's and Tapes without a license. He was smart with this Internet thing so he had a few more web sights made and connected them all together,on one he was selling all kinds of stuff from the EX YU on the other it was kind of a Ex YU social network sight(like a Ex Yu Facebook you can say)the third was about the celebrities, the fourth about jokes etc,etc and i still believe there was not a person from the Ex YU territory who had not heard of his Websights.

Me on the other hand, went a totally different way.I always considered my self to be good with people, and good problem solver,i also considered my self to be very smart. So what did i do you ask?

I got a job as a Bouncer at one of the well known Beverly Hills Bar,CRUSTACION.
For the next few years i ended up working a s a Bouncer,Driver,Body Guard,Personal run around Boy,Car Wash attendant,Cleaner,Gardner, anythin and everything that will make me some money...

But there was more behind all this madness,i was working hard on getting to know people,a lot of poeple!Heck i think i probably knew the entire Los Angeles population which equals to nearly 18 million people respectively as of 2010.

Soon after a friend of mine Costas(another Greek Figure that has played an important rolle in my life)Contacted me about a Job opportunity. He knew only bits and pieces about it,because he was still in Cypress at the moment but he will be returning to LA soon.

Costas was a 6 foot 4 good looking guy,who was employed by the best Fitness Club in LA.The SPORTS CLUB LA,where if you would like to join you would have to pay a lot of money...for example a basic member ship will run you a miserably 1000$ down payment and only a few hundred a month, depending if you would like Valet Parking included or not...
But it was the greatest place for meeting people. The Lakers,Clippers and many famous and rich people train there, well some go there for the Margharitas...yes they have a Full Bar!
So back to Costas...He comes back and calls me,tells me how he will become partner in a Business with his ex Client who he used to train at the Sports Club LA and that he might have something for me.Great!i thought to my self, let's do it.Already two days later i had a meeting in Century City to meet this mystery Person.

I drove up to one of those great looking buildings in Century City, had my car parked for me,met the Personal Assistant who then took me in and intorduced me to my Future Ex Boss.Let's just say his name is ...Sam.

Sam was a young guy, coming from a wealthy Family, and trust me you would never say so.This guy was so down to earth and nice that i did not feel uncomfortable at all being around all the framed pictures of him and Bill Clinton and many other famous people.

After we talked for a while,we even found out that he trains at the same gym as my brother...yepp,the Sports Club LA.What a small World...or not?

So let's see,i went in for a position as Personal Security and got the Job!I was excited!I mean this could be interesting you know.
And so the adventure begins.

Sam was a young guy who was highly educated and also street smart.I liked this Guy,i mean yeah i worked like 15-24 hrs. a day but i didn't mind!Who would say a Serb who likes to work.

His projects soon became Big,and people when i say Big i mean BIG!From the first place he started with my Friend Costas the Sanctuary a Night Club on Sunset blvd to The Gate on La Cienega to the Viceroy,Katsuya,SLS Hotels and so on,and on and on.

Needles to say i have met and worked some great people thanx to Sam.I met people like the Mayor of LA,Vice presidential Candidate Cheney,Enrique Iglesias,Madonna etc etc,but i think the best of them all was meeting Phillipe Starck.A Great Artist and Human Being.Anyhow, all of this was interesting but it did not do much for me at that point, except for the fact that it boosted my ego.Which of you can never have enough in Los Angeles.
I spent a few years working for Sam personally but after some time they found someone knew for him to replace me(you know confidentiality issues)but they did not removed me from the Company.I stayed and worked with them together on different other projects, from Security,to PR and eventually Marketing.

The time spent working for SBE opened up many doors for me later on and i definitely used it to my advanatge.

Soon after,my Brother decided to test the waters him self in the same Field as Sam,after all he lives in LA and knows many people also my Brother loves the night life,so would be the best thing to do at the time where he is looking to invest? That's right a Night Club!

It was a rough road for him to come to the place where he's at now, however i'am very proud to say that he is now a CEO of Confidential Beverly Hills, the one and only Night Club in Beverly Hills.

After working some time with him together and helping him get things rolling,i felt stronger and stronger about the fact that i really would love to go back to Europe.

I mean my Parents are here,my friends, and now that i'm older and wiser i'am looking at the things a little different then before, you see all the things i've done good or bad have only helped me develop in a better person,a stronger individual,a smarter man and a more experienced business man.And i'am grateful for that. But it was time for me to pack up and go back home. But before i would do that there is one thing missing!I still have not gotten my Citizenship yet!!Should i leave a Country where i lived and worked, payed taxes, contributed to society without getting my citizenship? How could i forget that? The thing is,i never really wanted to apply for it,i thought my green card was good enough,i have the best passport in the World i have the SWISS passport! But it was not about that,it was about the fact that i wanted to be recognized as a Citizen of the US,someone who will proudly say that that is so.Just like i do with my Swiss Citizenship. So i applied for it and let me tell you that this was the shortest government related procedure ever from filling out the application and mailing the check to the point where i stood and took my oath it took less that a month and a half.Great accomplishment.

So as soon as i had the passport in my hand,i packed up my stuff, took my Car to the Harbor, put it on the Ship, bought my ticket and a few days later i was off to the Country where i was born HOPP SCHWIIZ

I have to say that i'am very happy to be here now,new beginning kinda exciting, reminds me of the 90's when i went to LA not knowing what to expect. But that is exactly what i like!I like the challenge,i am hungry for success and knowledge i want to learn as well as contribute.I'am ready.

Being here now in this forum, and writing all this, makes me think how no one will read this but in case you did,i thank you for taking the time to hear my Story.Because i believe that story's connect people, words connect people, networking connects people.

So feel free to comment or ask questions, and also share information. My CV is ready to be looked at.And as far as my Life story concerns...well you got done reading it...
(there's actually more but who's interested can ask me over a beer about it)
Cheers!

Take Care
Dejan aka Dean

Hey there Dejan. Welcome to the forum.

That's quite a comprehensive intro. I just need to go grab a cuppa and some biscuits before I read it properly.

Also,i have forgot to mention the most important thing, which should sum up my intro i hope

Do not ever let anyone tell you that you can NOT do something!I have heard that a million times in my Life! And believe me it is not true.
Go for it,try you have nothing to lose. You will only gain experience and knowledge to better your self.

I receive denials on my Job Applications every day,but i don't give up.Never Give Up People.

Cool Introduction. You remind me of my good old serbian friend Niko Bellic who I used to play with a lot in Liberty City about four years ago...

Oh yeah, he is!

End of the 80's a close friend of mine also went to MI in Los Angeles.
Visited a few times later when his band tried to get famous. Spent a lot of time in the Whiskeys, Cats and Fiddle, Rainbow etc. The band didn't have the big breakthrough and eventually came back to Switzerland, only the rowdy who didn't speak english at the beginning is still in L.A.

Guess I should visit some good friends over there soon.

If you are looking for a good YU/CH Restaurant go here.
