New student in Lausanne

Hi everyone,

I just moved to Lausanne from Paris for my studies. I'm not English, but French/American.
After living a while near Boston, MA, Switzerland is quite the change. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the area, and hopefully popping down into Italy at some point. I CANNOT WAIT for the skiing season -- it's been too long!

I hope to meet some of you EF people around!
Alexia

Hi Alexia,

Welcome to Lausanne! Are you a student at EPFL or Unil? I've recently moved to EPFL to start a post-doc... and am also very much looking forward to the skiing season!! Let me know if you fancy meeting for lunch on campus (either one!) some day :-)

Jenny

Why thank you!
I'm at EPFL for Mechanical Engineering. What is your field?
I would love to schedule a lunch on campus (or off, for that matter)! Do you know any of the restaurants/cafés/lunch venues yet?

Alexia

How convenient.
Thanks for the welcome! So far it feels like I've regressed into high-school , probably because I'm older than most of the students. Hopefully once things get settled that will change!

Re: New student in Lausanne

I'm told we'll go into full high-school mode with the start of the semester tomorrow. Having also arrived during the summer break, I don't quite know what to expect. Welcome to EPFL!

From what I've seen, it's gonna be high-school on crack... and speed.
Looks like we're both in for a treat! Welcome to you too!

Hi Alexia! I'm Sarah - a new student in Neuchatel, but I am frequently in Lausanne. I lived in Lausanne last spring for a while so I know the city pretty well and would love to go out for lunch or something. Let me know if you want to meet up sometime!

Re: New student in Lausanne

Welcome to EPFL! I'm actually in Boston right now (small world!), but was a visiting student this past semester and will be starting my PhD in bioengineering next month. I'm a Polish American looking to get to know others who will also be in Switzerland for longer term. While I've loved Switzerland so far, the hardest part for me has been watching new friends and acquaintances (who tend to be exchange students) return to their home countries. Expat life has its drawbacks, I guess.

I won't be around until October 1st, but I'd love to meet up for lunch sometime!

Hi, thanks for the welcome!

I know what you mean. I feel like someone's always leaving -- either me or my friends. And while discovering new places and meeting new people is always fresh and exciting, goodbyes don't get any easier.

Would love to meet up when you get back from Boston (!). See email.

Alexia
