Thinking abt launching a society for newbies in Switzerland...for Filipinos(?)

Hellooo,

I'm new here in EF. My friends and I are thinking of launching a society club for newbies in Switzerland. In order to help them to adjust in the new environment. Like explaining them how to commute, how it works with the insurances etc etc or just find company to hang out with.

We were all born in the Philippines and grew up here in Switzerland therefore we are not sure if the club should be for Filipinos only or other Nationalities as well.

What do you think guys?

Thanks for your feedbacks!

It sounds great - the only problem is that by calling it a 'society for newbies', it implies that membership would be subject to a time limit. What happens when a member is no longer a newbie, but an old hand?

You'd be better off calling it a 'welcome and support society' or suchlike, then you'd benefit from the wisdom and knowledge of your oldies while helping out your newbies.

Good luck with it, whatever you decide to do!

Re: Thinking abt launching a society for newbies in Switzerland...for Filipinos(?)

Thanks for your reply...of course as soon as a member is not a newbie anymore they will be helping new newbies :-)

But do you think it would make sence that the club is for Filipinos only? There are not a lot of new Filipinos in Switzerland or am I wrong?

We will be 4 founders (2 based in Zurich, 1 in Aargau, 1 in Basel) and looking for other interested members who will be responsible in other cantons.

In my opinion, no. I'm British but I'd steer well clear of any club which was established just for British citizens.

Having said that, there might be some information and tips which are pretty linguistically/culturally specific, so that would be an argument for founding a special filipino club.

It's your call, just beware of establishing exclusive rules without good reason.

Are your founding members women or men ? In Zurich there is the 'ZIWA' (Zurich International Women's Association) and it's a big organisation with women from many different nationalities, and plenty of activities...

It seems there are at least two organisations for filipina's in Switzerland according to this website:
http://www.thefilipino.com/intl.html

One of them appears to be quite active:
http://sapilzug.tripod.com/index.html

I would check out www.meetup.com if you are looking for things going on and people meeting for social activities in Switzerland (or anywhere else).

As for country specific events, I would check out the website of your embassy to see whether they have any links.
