| | Hello from South Africa
Hi everybody.
As mentioned in my title to this thread, I am a South African, currently living in Pretoria. I stumbled onto this forum using good old Google, looking at career opportunities and the possibility of immigrating to Switzerland. I have visited Switzerland a couple of times before for business and on vacation with my wife and really loved it. We mainly toured the central and northern regions of Switzerland.
I am looking forward to chatting with you all real soon. |

Hi,
I was born in the UK, but have been living on the North Coast, just outside Ballito for the last ten years. I left in March this year, and am now commuting between London and Zürich, all for love!
Very different here, but wonderful......... good luck

Thanks for the welcome guys. I'm sure I will have tons of questions to come. At the moment I am getting familiar with the Federal office for Migration's website. Don't know if that is the right startingblock, but one has to start somewhere
We are planning another visit to Swiss in June/July next year. Hopefully we will meet up with some of you. |

I'm from South Africa too, just down the road in Midrand! I am hoping to "make the move" next year. Are you planning on emigrating too? This forum is fabulous, you'll love it. |

Hi Bobby, I am also a Mindrander. What a lovely "village" it was when we moved here 20 years ago. We are also relocating to CH for the same reasons everyone else is. My husband is Swiss. I don't like bashing SA on the Forum; the SA "firey" tempers can flare in a flash. I can only be honest and say our everyday life is hampered by stolen Telkom Cables, loss of MTN coverage, Eskom's blackouts, not to mention the crime situation. Why do we have to sit around and waite for the inevitable to happen (you know what I mean) It's a personal choice, more so when you leave behind family, grand kids, acres and acres of beautiful property, and your birth right. Those of us who can relocate, are so fortunate to be able to do so. Yes, we still have ties here and will visit as often as possible, but I believe we also have the right to live the life we worked so hard for and deserve. Best of Luck

Finally someone my own age & disposition! Yes, when we moved to Midrand New Road was a little one-lane dust road across the highway! It's not easy leaving behind things and people dear to you, but you will be gaining a lot, and they can always come & visit.
Good luck to you too, when are you going?

Selling our properties, wrapping up our business and then heading straite for O.R. Tambo airport with our 2 Yorkies. Let's hope it does not take too long, bearing in mind property sales are at an all time low now. Maybe we should meet some time.

Hi,
I'm originally from Poland but I had lived for 10 years in South Africa and gained SA citizenship... Country has been always gr8 but notorious black outs and crime, rand going down... made me make up my mind... SA which we call now TIA (This is Africa) from famous Blood Diamond. I moved here to Schweiz in January 2008 leaving behind lekker climate, braais boerwors and other stuff... I dont regret my decision though but it feels very different to what u r used 2 bud... Life treats people well here and I guess it wont be difficult to adapt to the new conditions.... Sorry for sentiments but I miss my place in Doulasdale Jozi and Pretoria mostly my friends and tennis in clubs (by the way it's bloody expensive here)... So get ready for a brand new start in your life and try 2 c y urself |

Hello - we are ex capetonians and also moved here recently in Nov 07. We are really starting to love it here but also miss the braais, boerewors and friends and family. I think it would be a good idea if us South Africans, and now Swiss residents, (and anyone else who is keen), were to get together for dinner and share experiences and memories... how does that sound? Let me know who is keen and I will arrange a dinner somewhere in Zurich..
Would be really good as it can be hard to make friends here initially...
Tanya

It sound like a gr8 idea. I used 2 live in Zürich for 1 month, but moved 2 weeks ago to Neuenhof into more secluded and spacious place... All the same distance to work at ABB Turgi is a stone cast away.... It would b nice 2 get 2 know more people and recollect lekker stuff. I ve been to CT many times and love Wester Cape province very much....

Apologies, it is a new global trend that I almost didnt realise it has caught up so quickly even in SA and people tend to test speak each other especially in Jozi area where life is more hectic. Nontheless I will stick to more conservative manner of speaking and refine my vocabuler. Thx for constructive remark |
