First of all, hello to everyone.

I am an Australian who is currently living Canberra. The reasons for my posting today, apart from saying hello, is to figure out what to expect if my partner and I relocate to Geneva.

Very recently, my girlfriend was urged by her colleagues to apply for an available position over there with an Australian government department – given she speaks fluent French and more than satisfies the position criteria, it was a no-brainer (who would pass on an opportunity like that?). I of course will follow, however, I don’t speak French and am finding the whole job search thing slightly daunting.

I have found this forum extremely helpful over the past couple of months and have been searching the suggested job agencies and websites. No luck so far but I will keep looking.

Welcome to the forum SDC! I hope your girlfriend gets the position as Switzerland is a lovely place.

What can you expect here? A few of the things that spring to mind are: enjoying the great outdoors, fantastic skiing/boarding, short trips to France/Italy/Germany, raclette, fondue and chocolate.

Finding a job as a non-EU citizen can be difficult, but I think that it may be even tougher doing it remotely so you may find that you have more success once you are actually in the country.
