New in Lausanne

Morning all! I have just moved here to Lausanne and looking forward to discovering all about this area. I am a Brit with a family (who are coming over end of year from the Connecticut area in USA) and look forward to contributing along the way!

Re: New in Lausanne

Welcome to Lausanne and the forum. Where abouts are you from in CT and what brings you to Lausanne? We too are from CT (West Hartford) and moved here about 1.5 years ago. Wife (me) and children joined hubbie about 6 mths later also. Let me know if I can help answer any questions as you are getting settled. Hope you enjoy being here as much as we do!

Re: New in Lausanne

we just sold the house in New Canaan. I was in Buenos Aires for the last year and a half and before that in the US since 2000 - NY, Richmond, SC, Richmond and then Back to NY before ARG and then here. I work for PMI based in the Rhodanie Campus.
Family (wife and 2 kids 11 &12, Boy and girl, 2 dogs and a cat!) will be coming over end dec.
Looking at Haut lac and ISL for IB programme - any recommendations and insight on the 2? ISL we are on waiting list (2 and 3 for Jan in respective grades) but Haut Lac can take both in Jan. Love lutry and also vevey but not too keen on living way above the Kempinski which seems to be the only place where we can get a house at the moment! We are in cor accom next to the office at the moment.
Any recommendations, advice etc woudl be welcomed!
cheers
Dom

I'm in Lutry as well and I love it. Husband works in Montreux and takes the train every day. I take the bus into Lausanne a few times a month, and we head into Vevey almost every weekend for the farmers' market. Can't speak to the schools, but we have never regretted choosing Lutry. In fact, the more we explore the surrounding towns, the more we think we couldn't have chosen better.

Send me a private message once your whole family is here, and we'll be happy to welcome you with drinks and apero.

Re: New in Lausanne

Hi! We are coming over next year - how has the move been? We'll be getting an apartment as we don't have any kids, but it could be a long hunt... What is living in corporate accommodation like without having any of your own stuff?

Re: New in Lausanne

Wow! And I thought we had moved a lot! Also have a 12 & 11 yo, as well as an 8 yo. We live in Paudex which is between Pully & Lutry and love the location. It is literally a 10 min walk to both Lutry and Pully. Feels like we have the best of both worlds!

The 2 older kids are at Champittet, which we have been relatively pleased with. You can find lots of posts about it already on EF. They do offer the IB program, but you would need to be committed to wanting the kids to learn French. Was impressed with HL, it was a toss-up between the 2 schools, but hubbie works in Lausanne and we wanted to be closer to his work as well as live close to the school, so Champittet it was! As for ISL, they gave me a bad taste in my mouth, so we never seriously pursued that option (which probably wasn't an option at all bc of the wait lists). There is also LLIS in Morges. Know 2 families with children there and they have so far been quite happy. School is in Morges but both families live in my area.

Let me know if I can help further - feel free to PM me. And welcome!

PS: we also brought 2 cats!
