Hello : Basel

Hello everyone,

Just wrote a rather lengthy introduction which got lost when trying to post it, and don't have the energy to repeat that effort ... apologies.

Suffice it to say: been in Basel since February. I work from home so don't have much opportunity to meet people. Thus am here diversifying ways to meet people! Am an Australian (with Irish passport). Forex / Futures trader. Gymnast / general fitness nut ... among other things.

So if there is anyone that wants to catch up for a beer / coffee / meal on weekends (precious little time during week, except later in evenings). Let me know.

If there are any early musicians out there also be interested to here from you. I am not one personally, but my fiancé is (she currently at the Royal Conservatoire in Den Haag).

If you have any questions please ask.

NB: I live right in the centre, a stone's throw from Marktplatz.

Re: Hello : Basel

Welcome, welcome!

If you are an Ausie Fitness dude/dudette you might be interested in Touch Rugby:

and

http://www.baseltouch.ch/

They/we play twice a week in summer and once a week - on Sundays - in winter weather permitting...

Hello, I'm an early musician! I'm a Medieval/Renaissance soprano, and I study at the Schola Cantorum here.

What instrument is your fiancée studying, or is she a singer too?

EG.

Re: Hello : Basel

Carlos: Thanks for that.

Monday nights are out for me, but Sundays are spot on. Never played touch before (except in High school for PE ... but that was too long ago!). Nonetheless sounds like it could be fun. Have had a cold this week, so might be touch and go for Sunday (sorry!), but will pop down Sunday week at the latest. Anything I need in particular?

Emily: Hello there, nice to meet you.

She plays Traverso (studying with Kate Clark). She plays mostly Baroque and Classical, not much in the way of Medieval, but Renaissance absolutely. How do you find the Schola?

Re: Hello : Basel

Check out the Basel Flouncers page on facebook - there are a couple of folk on that who have studied and play baroque.classical.

Re: Hello : Basel

Hi Dadulf,
I also play touch rugby in Basel. All you really need is a bit of enthusiasm. Though it helps to have a pair of grass shoes to cut down on the slip'n'slide factor. I have found them a really fun group, and very welcoming of beginners.
Cheers. DKH

Good man. I've just accepted you into it. It's a private club where only people who click "want to join" can join.

Lovely - I do Baroque and other genres too, but unofficially (:
Schola is really great. I have awesome classes like Renaissance dance and get to learn the medieval harp alongside my singing studies!
