6 Weeks til Zurich!

Hi Everyone,

My husband moved to Switzerland last year for work and has now been made permanent so now is my turn to move over!

We are both from the UK and our new home is in Hombrechtikon. I'll be moving over at the end of June and it is all very exciting and hectic at the moment

Would love to hear from others new to the area or from anyone who wants to share their knowledge about the area, especially anyone who has pets as I have a dog and 4 cats to settle in.

Thanks

I arrived Zuri Fest 2010, incredible weekend in store for you, if you have time to get out.

What dog are you bringing?

Good timing I think or sheer fluke ... Regardless it seems a great time to get there!
I'm bringing my old girl rottweiler... She is nearly 12 years old now so hoping the move isn't too traumatic for her. Just got to finish their passports off and find a nice vets to register her at over there quickly. Any ideas or suggestions? Do you have dogs too?

Haha, yeah bit of both really. Needless to say, it definitely had a bearing on my staying here longer than the 3 months planned.

Aww how nice, I like Rotti's. I assume you have the house etc all sorted, that takes pets etc? It can be troublesome finding the right place. Do not see many Rottweilers here to be honest, an old colleague had two though here, lovely dogs.

Depending on where you live will depend on your vet of choice. I use for my french bulldog:
Dr. med. vet. Ulrich Coradi

Tierarzt
Mutschellenstrasse 77, 8038 Zürich

When you go with the dog to the vet they will take care of all the initial registration into ANIS database etc, health check, etc etc. Then you will receive a letter from your local gemeinde (town council if you like) for the yearly dog tax bill (170CHF ' ish). Do not think cats are as much bother.

Do not forget that your cats, unlike the dog, do not love YOU but your home. So take whatever they love now with you to your new home !

And another hint. While Hombrechtikon is in the Canton of Zürich, the closest town to Hombrechtikon is the charming town of Rapperswil

and to reach Zürich you can take the train (fast) or the ship from Rapperswil which is slow but most enjoyable

So how long have you been in Switzerland then?

Yep rotties are great. She is my last dog and getting on in years so hoping the move will be a nice place for her. I've also got to contact customs as she is a docked doggy so just want to make sure there will be no issues.

We have a house sorted and a nice one at that. It has been a little tricky with having the pets to find but only took a couple of months of intermittent searching and viewing. Really looking forward to getting there now.

Thanks for the heads up of the vets. Will contact them before the move to see if they will work for us. I knew about the registering of the dog but didn't know about the dog tax bill... Unfortunately it feels steep given the fact that I'm not expecting her to be around any longer than a few months

Thanks for the advice! I have lots of their bedding and toys etc coming with us so they should be fine. The house we are in has surroundings similar to the environment they have now so keeping fingers crossed for a smooth transition.

The hubby has been living in and around the area since last year so i'm hoping he has spotted lots of lovely places for us to explore and discover rather than just the obvious cities. I'm going to be watching out for events to go to and things to do on weekends other than the obvious walking/skiing etc too.

Liking the idea of the ship

Here the ships on the lake

Admittedly not Titanic-size but very nice
