Is life slow in Switzerland ?

When we arrived a few years ago to Switzerland I found it very slow and boring. There are a great deal of things to do here actually, still life seemed slow and still. Slow traffic, people walked slowly, shops were open in interesting time schedules...

There are aspects of this "slow" life that are still very challenging, but I do appreciate many others I did not before.

I went as far as starting a blog recently to explore and enjoy aspects of a "slow" life. ( the blog is in an exploratory phase )

Are you interested? Have a look here!

http://www.slow2balance.blogspot.com

Do you do slow things in Switzerland? Do you enjoy it?

Cheers ,
Judit

Re: Is life slow in Switzerland ?

Yes, the pace of life is slower... probably explains why the quality of life is much higher.

Re: Is life slow in Switzerland ?

Life here is quite slow. I miss being crushed in the subway on the way to work and never having enough time to go to the supermarket.

When I read the thread title and first post, I was certain OP was in Canton Bern! (you know, all the stereotypes of Bernese and whatnot)

Yeah, I wish too, I didn't have time to go shopping And that there where more delivery services... But you can always pop over to a big city by easyjet to get crushed in subways... But seriously, I know what you mean.

Re: Is life slow in Switzerland ?

This reminds me of the time a big bear walked into our local and said to the bar man.

"a pint of________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ ___________beer please"

Bar man says " What's with the big pause"?

Re: Is life slow in Switzerland ?

Define "slow," in a country.

I can have both hectic , rushed days, and slow relaxed ones, no matter where i am living. I am inclined to think that a lot of noisy traffic and crowded streets are the things that make people think a place is "fast" or an absence of such things as being "slow."

Thinking about it, I can cycle across town faster in "slow" Switzerland, and get to places easier by public transport, than I can in busier countries. Nor do I have to queue so long anywhere. Responses from service industries such as the fire brigade come faster and the locksmith turns up within 20 minutes at midnight on Sundays.

So perhaps slow is actually faster. But more relaxing.

Re: Is life slow in Switzerland ?

It was at about 122km/h as I headed back to Zürich from Bärn yesterday and I was overtaken by a train which was probably pushing 200km/h, so no, not slow at all.

Re: Is life slow in Switzerland ?

I can't speak for the rest of Switzerland, but my life is certainly slower, less hectic and less stressful since I lived here.
Could be something to do with giving up my hectic and stressful job.

I can get an x-ray for a thumb injury on the same day (after a bit of a wait at the Permanence walk-in place). My friend from the UK was lamenting on FB this morning that she needs an x-ray on her neck after falling from a ladder and they've booked her in on Monday!

I think I prefer Switzerland's kind of "slow".
