New in Wil SG

Hi Everyone,

I just moved to Wil SG 3 months ago with my husband and 4 year old daughter. I am Hungarian, but lived in Ireland and Florida before. I am looking for people to meet. Let me know if you around here

Hi!

my name is Davide and I looked with so much interest to your offer because we are now thinking of moving to Wil.

I was looking at Wil with strong interest because it seems the kind of town not to small and at the same time not very chaotic.

I would like to ask about the services available in the city, and in specific:
- reputation of the education system (we have a 4-year-old daughter)
- sport infrastructures for practicing swimming and ice-skating
- music school for kids
- other activities available for adult people (language schools, chorus, etc.)
- how are people there in general? Is there a predominance of swiss, foreigners or what? Are swiss people there quite sensitive to noisy neighbours? (I heard some stories about that!)

Thank you
Davide

Hi Davide

I live in Wil for 1 year now and I like it so far. My 5 year old daughter went to Kita, which is an billingual (german an english) daycare, kindergarten and school. I was very happy with the "service" there, so is my daughter. In normal kindergarten teachers only speak swiss german. As far as I know 30% of Wil's population is foreigner. There is place to go swimming ( summer and winter) also ice skating (Bergholz). There is a music school also, but I have mot got a personal experience. People are nice in general. Public transportation is good. Zurich is 40 min by train, Konstanz is 1 hour if you want go go shopping
Maybe someone else have more info, good luck with the moving.

Re: New in Wil SG

I live just outside Wil and I think its a very convenient town. Its not the most picturesque town but you can get used to that.
The Altstadt is nice though.
Really good transport links and close enough to Konstanz if you want to shop there.
Also new swimming pool and ice rink complex opened in the last year. In terms of sports for kids, I don't know as we live in another Gemeinde but I would guess there would be lots of clubs available, as that seems to be the case in smaller towns even.

Sorry it took so long for me to answer (computer had a break down!) but I think you've probably got all the answers you needů Either way, if you have more questions just drop me a line!

Re: New in Wil SG

Hello there, I`m also new in CH and I`m looking for a primary school in Wil.

My kid (6 years old) doesn't speak neither German nor English. Can someone share opinion about Lindenhofschule? Or about some other schools?

Re: New in Wil SG

No need to look for one: You can't choose your public schools in Switzerland. There are catching areas, depending where you live, the school will be in walking distance to your house.

Your child will get special lessons in German (DaZ, Deutsch als Zweitsprache) as soon as it enters the school. Lindenhof is very multicultural, so they are used to that. I used to teach there at Sekundarschule.

Sonnenhof is less multicultural, their catching area lies in the better neighbourhoods of the well-to do on the hill.

Good luck!

Thank you, marischi!

And can you or someone else recommend me a nice neighborhood in Wil for a new European family?
Isn`t the area of Lindenhof gut?

Re: New in Wil SG

I'd rather look at oelberg or neualtwil. Parts of lindenhof and around the station are sometimes quite rough. Use google maps to get a first impression. Good luck!
