Arriving in Geneva in one week! What can i expect?

Hi,

Well i'm arriving in Geneva next sunday. I'm currently living in Frankfurt, Germany where I have been living and working for the last 18 months, but I've just accepted a new job down in Geneva and will soon be on the road. Now I know very little about Geneva - so perhaps any of you guys that live there could give me a run down of what's hot, what's not, where's the cool parts of town are, where to avoid etc.etc.etc.

I'm a young fella, and pretty social, so i wanna get settled in asap. Are the any forumers on here from Geneva? If so make yourselves known please1

Well the first thing you can expect is a mod to tell you to go up to the menu and hit "search" and put in Geneva. There is a bit of info on here about Geneva, but it aint going to get served up to you on this thread , you have to go and look for it yourself.

If you don't find what you are looking for - ask on the appropriate thread. We have more Zurich people than Geneva people on here, but hopefully with time that will change.

Hi number 10

Welcome to Geneva!! I've been living here for over 2 years and loving it, (compared to my previous 3 years in Basel). If you are looking info about the social, party life, what's hot amongst the under 30 years old age group etc then check out genevaonline.com. If you are looking for daily life information, feel free to PM me and I'll answer as best as I can.
Also do a search on this forum, I have answered few questions here and there regarding Geneva in the past.

Re: Arriving in Geneva in one week! What can i expect?

Hi I'm moving to Geneva in May but spend alot of time there as my partner grew up in Nyon.

Being Irish I can advice on the pub front very well lol. There is The POST CAFE near the train station use to be a lively place. There's Flanagain in the old town which was an Irish pub but I belive is now run by a swiss couple. Not sure if this is true, when I use to go there before I had children etc it was great fun. There is a shortage of clubs etc in Geneva but you fnd other ways to socialise like eating out etc. Lausanne is another great place to go out and the last train back to Geneva is around midnight and yes it does go on time should know I missed it enough times lol. I'm trying to remeber all of this from my younger days when I was carefree etc. If I think of anywhere eles I'll let you know. Good luck but you will love Geneva even in the cold.
