Hello from Zürich

Hello Everyone,

I'm 39 years of age and have been living in Switzerland for 9 1/2 years now. I have 2 Children and am a single mother. I was born and raised in England, but my parents are Jamaican. I speak German (not fluently) and work for an American company.

I was told about this forum today and thought I'd visit the forum to see what's on offer, topics for discussion etc.

It would be great to meet other English speaking people for drinks in Zürich and find out how people have managed their lives since moving here, what difficulties they have encountered and how they overcame them.

Although I've lived in Switzerland for almost 10 years now I haven't seen much of the mountains or done any of the winter sports except once when I tried snowboading.

Well that's about it for the moment.

Latasha

Hello,

Has anyone been able to establish good friendships through this forum? Any other avenues explored to build up networks/friendships with other English speaking people?

You're kidding right?

This forum has built networks for friends across all of Switzerland. It has also been instrumental in building professional networks and has potential for a lot more.

I know you're new here, but go ahead and read this thread, read people's reply and tributes. It's for Mark, who started this whole thing. Mark died recently and this thread is where people have been able to pay tribute to him and what the forum has done for them. This thread will answer your question better than anyone else.

Mourning the loss of a friend, a leader, an innovator, a genuinely nice guy

Look around the forums, and specifically take a look at the calendar. There are many events. Why don't you go ahead and join one? You'll have a bucket load of friends in no time at all.
