hello and moving to Bern

Hello - I may be moving to Bern in the Fall, for 6 months only, as part of a sabbatical where I'd be working at University of Bern. I have 2 children, ages 7 and 11. I wondered if anyone has any good advice about moving to Bern with children, and what neighborhoods are good. I would prefer them to attend public schools, although they do not speak much German. If anyone has any advice about neighborhoods and schools, I'd appreciate hearing it! (I also wondered if Fribourg may be better as we do speak some French, but I understand that one may have to live in the canton in which they are employed.) Thank you! Audrey

Welcome to the Forum Audrey. I expect you will have a thousand other questions, so maybe this book will be useful, (the newest version covers the latest laws)

Generally here, you get what you pay for, so the property prices reflect the desirabilty. Personally I think east or north Bern areas are best,

3.5 rooms means 2 bedrooms, a living room, and a diner/kitchen, with bathroom. With 2 children you would need a 4 or 5 room apartment.
If you are noisy, and like to let off steam, get a house!
