| | I'm on my way! Anyone know Buonas, Zug?
Looks like we are moving to Buonas in June/July - anyone out there who can tell me a bit about it. (Am signing house papers today - so please tell me quick if it is a dive). Omigod I am nervous and excited. Spent last weekend looking at schools and Zug (where the office is going to be). Are we mad living across the lake? What happens in winter - will it take hours to get round to Baar (where the favourite school is) in the morning? Can I bring my toaster - will it work? I have hundreds of questions! Oh boy this is big! |

Welcome to Switzerland
Plenty more qualified to answer the geography questions than me who live in the region, but a pretty area..
Pretty much any appliance well work in Switzerland if brought from the UK just change the plug, costs about 50p a plug and pretty simple to do once you've changed a couple.

Thanks everyone! I have Google Earthed the house and coming over on Monday to finalise everything. Now I just need to know where to buy food, what to do with the bin liners and learn to speak the lingo - anyone know of Swiss-German classes?

Hiya!
Good luck with the move and everything! I've been in Zug for just over 5 months now and I love it here! Moved over from Kent (was working in London) and the change of pace is most welcome!
Bin liners you can get from Migros in Zug (which reminds me that I need some more!) and there's that place, Coop, Denner etc for food shopping.
Come out for Zug drinks when you're all settled in! | This user would like to thank Mikeybroomers for this useful post:

PM me for anything you need. We came here in August last year and I'm feeling a lot more settled now. Our daughter goes to the school you indicated (I think) and it is fine. Parking is a total nightmare but the school on the whole is good.

You might want to start with high german, then eventually learn the dialect.
Swiss german is very difficult to learn, as it changes depending on the Kanton . Plus you will have to learn high german for writing, official documents etc anyway. | This user would like to thank NDSpittal for this useful post:

Welcome to the EF and an andvanced welcome to the Kanton Zug. Buonas is a beautiful place. And there are lots of expats here, so you won't feel lonely.
You can take Swiss German classes here, but as NDSpittal mentioned it might be easier to learn High German first as everything here is written in High German and everybody understands/speaks High German. You'll pick up some Swiss German soon enough...
Good luck with the move!

Good luck moving to Zug. I can't comment on Buonas but I love living in and around Zug and Baar. It may be frustrating to start with but once you get used to how things work then it's great. Any questions then just ask away and come out with us for Zug Drinks when you get a chance. You might not quite managed Mikey's immediate plunge into them but they are a good way to meet people outside your immediate circle of work colleagues etc.

Buonas is a beautiful and quiet town! Nearest shops are in Rotkreuz or in Cham. Lovely area in summer. Excellent resturaunt near the ships landing (highly recommend it ) Bin liners can also be purchased at the Post.
Any more questions ask away. I've been here in the kanton for 5 years (finally received my C permit ) Good luck with the move!

Mouse | | | | | Bumping an old thread. We are moving soon. How was your experience to be in Buonas? How did the kid(s) find it? It would be really great if you can jot a few lines about the experience.
Thank you!
