From Korea to St. Gallen in Sept. '15

Hello,
My husband and I will be moving to St. Gallen in September. He will be studying for his MBA degree at the university there. I'm looking to find out what's happening in St. Gallen. I tried looking for Facebook pages, but there's not much that I could find out there.
Are there any team sports that men and women play together? How about marathons?
What is your favorite food in St. Gallen? Where do people go on the weekends? Are there any interesting cultural things to know? Are people friendly there?
If you know the answer to any of these questions, please leave a comment.
I look forward to our move!
Thanks,
Mary

Re: From Korea to St. Gallen in Sept. '15

Hi there.
grew up there.
What is your favorite food in St. Gallen?
St.Galler Bratwurst. NEVER, EVER take mustard with it (or you're considered not to understand anything about it). http://www.ostschweiz.ch/de/region/d...ller-bratwurst

Where do people go on the weekends?
Hiking in the alpstein (http://www.hoherkasten.ch/, http://www.alpsigel.ch/, kronberg.ch) - easy to walk up there really, on the saentis (www.saentisbahn.ch) - not as easy to walk up there, skiing or at the lake (Rorschach nice view from Rorschacherberg or Fünfländerblick). Or to Zurich if bored.
Or Kostanz or Bregenz (nice view on the lake of constance from the Pfänder, see pfaenderbahn.at/en/ (real easy to walk up again).

Are there any interesting cultural things to know?
Founded by an Irish monk who was saved by a bear. There's a really nice cloister and old library. all UNESCO world heritage.

Are people friendly there?
Well, quite rural, quite local. Much more than in Zurich. I guess it will be very hard for you to get into contact at first at least. Not to many speaking English fluently. But I would not consider them unfriendly. Just a little unsafe, undiplomatic and unconfident in themselves. But I am sure you'll get along.
Have fund and welcome

Welcome to the forum Mary!

I have quite a few friends that did MBA at St. Gallen and I have heard so many good things.

St. Gallen is close to Bodensee and boarder with Germany/Austria/Lichtenstein, and on the other side it is not far away from Zurich, I believe you will have fun weekends around all places

And please let me know if you found any good and authentic Korean restaurants...:P
