From Texas, USA to Switzerland

Howdy, y'all!

Or, perhaps, I should just give a "hello" to everyone.

I'm from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area in the U.S. and we're moving to Switzerland next year. My husband is transferring to work in Fribourg, beginning in January. I'll follow with our three children (now 15, 4, and 2) at the start of the summer (don't want to uproot them in the middle of the semester). I've only been to Switzerland twice in my lifetime and, unfortunately, have only had a couple of years of high school French, so I shall have TONS of questions to ask all of you, both about the language and Swiss life.

Thanks in advance for taking to the time to read my posts (and this one)!

Yes, we're arriving in 2016...so much to learn and so little time.

Thank you for the warm greetings!

Re: From Texas, USA to Switzerland

Welcome to the English Forum.

Are there even cherry trees down there in Texas? (Asked by someone who partly lives in the Cherry Republic of the USA, i.e. northwestern Lower Michigan, pretty close to the Canadian border where it is high up north.)

Yes, but they're not native. They actually grow quite well down here, but you have to remove our black clay soil and replace it with acid soil. I have a Kwanzan and a Yoshino that I love in my backyard, along with my azaleas.

Re: From Texas, USA to Switzerland

Best of luck with the move. There are several other of us from the states on EF and would be happy to help with the unexpected and unique challenges that present themselves for Americans moving here (banking, etc.)

Family life here is good and I hope you enjoy it as much as we have so far.

Re: From Texas, USA to Switzerland

Hi!

We are looking at moving in September of 2016 to Zurich and I also live in Dallas. Maybe we can meet up before moving?
