New to Geneva/HEI - Fall 2008

Hello, I am writing to introduce myself. I just found out I was accepted to a master's program at the Geneva Graduate Institute, so I will be moving there at the end of the summer. I know very little about Switzerland, though I lived in Florence for almost a year--so I am hoping that the culture shock won't be too intense. My biggest fear at the moment is getting all my paperwork for school and my visa straightened out, along with housing. If anyone on here is an HEI student, I would love to be in touch!

Welcome in advance to Geneva.

Paperwork and visa are extremely straightforward. It's housing that should be your main concern... and you should start looking already.

Re: New to Geneva/HEI - Fall 2008

Hi there! Thank you for your reply. I am indeed trying to figure out the housing thing--not so easy! I wish I had realized easier that I was getting into this school because I would have for sure been taking French right along. That is the hardest part for me. Though I do speak Italian--are there people in Geneva who speak that? I am trying to get housing through the school, but it looks like that might not be possible. I will try navigating the provided links for information, but are you familiar with the Geneva Graduate Institute and what area of the city it is in so I know where I should be looking? Thanks very much!!!

I'm very familiar with it, and as long as you're somewhere within Geneva you're never more than half an hour away from it. Which brings me to another point - you cannot really focus on an area, since demand outstrips supply by huge numbers.
