Hi everyone,

I'll be moving from sunny Sydney (hmmm, actually thinking of the last 6 months let me rephrase that) from unpredictable Sydney to beautiful Zurich in August this year. I'll be travelling for 3 months beforehand but I'm in my last week at work with absolutely nothing left to do (how good does that sound!). Well, I came across this forum which is absolutely brilliant. I'll be at the drinks from August onwards for sure.

Until then I hope to use this forum to get a bit more info about Zurich though. I have never been there but only heard good things about it. Am a little nervous as I only get 1 week of temp accom from work and it sounds like that the rent market in Zurich is a bit of a battlefield, but I'm sure I'll work it out!

Anyway, just wanted to say hi! But one quick question before I go, does anyone know if it's possible to watch the GF's (AFL/NRL) in Zurich, i.e. are there any aussie pubs that show oz sports?

Hi! You will love Zurich, it's brilliant. I lived in Baden for six years and worked in Zurich. There is quite an ex-pat community and there is also a Rugby club (www.rczurich.ch) with three men's teams.

It is quite difficult to find a decent flat in ZH itself, I would advise exploring your options in the region. I loved Baden, and it is only 15mins with the Schnellzug (fast train) to ZH mainstation. Plus the taxes are much lower in Argovia (Aargau).

Hello from another Aussie

Zurich is an absolutely beautiful city to live in, though it is not as bustling and exciting as Sydney.

There are no Aussie pubs as such here, but there is a place called the "Outback Lodge" in Zurich where you can go if you are craving Australian food and drinks. Not sure if they screen Aussie sports - you'll just have to find out! (Though, I don't think I've ever seen any AFL or NRL games on the cable channels here ...)

From there, you can get an idea of which areas are good from a tax standpoint. Each community has a different tax rate within a canton.
It is still hard for me to believe, but yes, it is true.

There are large expat communities in Adliswil, Thalwil, Horgen... and of course Zürich.

G'day mate yeah its a pretty tops city ol Zurich, plenty to do around the place, a car would be helpful but definately not a must. As for the GF's nah mate ay, I just jump on the net every weekend to keep up with me beloved Eagles and the Cowboys, but hey if ya find or hear of a place that has footy let me know...
