Child counselling

Hi everyone,

I'm new on here and I have a quick question. I'm doing a Diploma in Child Counselling in the UK that allows me to register with the BACP here in the UK. Will this qualification be recognised in Switzerland? If not does anyone have any idea of courses I can do in Switzerland to gain a similar qualification. I'm likely to be Zurich based. I'm a nursery nurse with 16 years experience in the field.

Thank you =)

Re: Child counselling

Highly unlikely. In what context would you work ? In Switzerland the health insurance system covers a fair amount of psychological/psychiatric support. Is your training at 'degree' level ?

Also, language will be a problem. You might be lucky to connect with organisations that support the English-speaking community in or around Zurich, but it is considered 'poor practice' to counsel in a language that is not your mother-tongue....

Re: Child counselling

You could check with SERI and see if your qualification would be recognised or not.

I guess you might be able to take a course, but again this will be in a Swiss language not English. You might do better to set up as a nanny here instead.

Re: Child counselling

In the Uk I would mainly be employed to work as a school based counsellor. I thought it would be tricky to do similar work in Switzerland.
Back to the drawing board for me...

Thank you both though for your time answering =)
