Master at Univeristy of Zurich

Hi everyone,

I tried to find answer of my question from previous posts, but couldn't find something relevant.

I am currently enrolled [non-EU student] at University of Zurich for a master's program fall semester 2016. I arrived in Switzerland in September 2015 to begin my study, but I couldn't continue with my course due to some personal reasons and I went back to my home country.
Now, I want to start my first semester. I've submitted my application to renew my residence permit based on my matriculation for fall semester 2016.

I have two questions:

Question 1: Should I inform to the university about my current situation and then begin my course again for fall semester 2016?

Question 2: Is it possible that migration office will extend my student residence permit until I am enrolled at the university for the next semesters ? because a master's program normally takes two years to complete.

Thank you in advance for kind response.

Re: Master at Univeristy of Zurich

1) Are you sure you're still enrolled? If you haven't been here then I doubt you are and may need to apply again.

2) If you haven't been here then I don't think you have a permit any longer. It's likely to be a new application.

These really are questions for the uni and the migration office as only they can answer them for you.

Thank you very much for your response.
Yes, I have got matriculation from university for the fall semester 2016 and based on that I have submitted my application to migration office to renew my student residence permit which is still under process.
I will also contact with relevant authorities to get the answers of my questions, I was just posting here if someone can guide me in advance before facing any difficult situation. Thanks

Re: Master at Univeristy of Zurich

I would say to contact the university and the migration office. I've recently been dealing with issues related to getting my resident's permit and no one could really totally tell me what to do except them. For the resident's permit you need proof of your matriculation (which will need to be for the correct date now--Fall 2016) and a copy of your previous degree I think. It sounds like you have that, though, so it might be enough. Either way, it's probably a good idea to contact the department you're doing your master's in and let them know the situation as well I'd guess.
