Hello! Living in Sion

Hello all! I moved to Sion about a year ago.

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area in California and went to school in Los Angeles studying Chemistry. Now I am a Ph.D student at EPFL working at their fairly new satellite campus near the Sion train station.

I just passed my candidacy exam and now will for sure be here for a few more years.

I'm looking to meet new people in Sion or around Switzerland (I have a car now )

My mother tongue is english and I can get by with french with daily things but I still cannot have a conversation. This is currently my greatest challenge. I love to snowboard, doing nature stuff like hiking or just going out for drinks.

That's me in a nutshell and I hope I can meet some new people in the area!

Welcome to the forum.

Nah, your greatest challenge will be dealing with US tax returns once you start earning enough to have to file them.

Re: Hello! Living in Sion

Hello Teav,

I'm originally from California myself (Orange County, now living in San Diego). My wife and I are looking to make our move to Lausanne in about a year. Stoked with our decision, but also being a surfer there are some trade-offs to moving to a landlocked country. Luckily, I'm also into snowboarding, hiking, and nature stuff. Being in the heart of the Valais is perfect for these kinds of activities.

Good luck with your studies / career. In the same boat with learning French, although I also speak German, so with learning a 3rd language now, it seems to be going a bit more smoothly.

Cheers,
