Moving to Lugano soon

Hi,

We are moving to Lugano in August when my wife takes up a new role. I work in media in the UK, looking for any recommendations for recruitment agencies in Lugano and advice, are there any barriers if I was to find a role in Milan?

Thanks
JCM

Yes, sort of. Assuming you get a family reunification permit then yes you could take up a job in Milan, subject to whatever rules the Italians have for cross border commuters. And you'd likely have to return to Switzerland at least once a week. Check with the Italian migration office for exact details.

And of course the language barrier.

Thank you, I will check the visa's requirements and look forward to learning Italian to break down that barrier :-)

Milano is too far from Lugano for a cross-border permit.

Como, Varese OK.

You will have to get an Italian residence permit.

And anything in Italy will pay far less.

Re: Moving to Lugano soon

I think you're wrong there Tom. I assume the conditions for working in Italy would be the similar to what they are for cross border EU nationals here.

"Cross-border commuters from EU-27/EFTA member states are granted professional and geographical mobility. No border zones exist for them anymore. These persons may live anywhere in the EU-27/EFTA region and work anywhere in Switzerland provided that they return to their place of residence abroad once a week."

Re: Moving to Lugano soon

Perhaps, but there's still the problem of earning 3x less in Italy than in Ticino.

Re: Moving to Lugano soon

True, but he may be more interested in what the job offers career-wise than the money.

Re: Moving to Lugano soon

Thanks all for the advice, it does make things very clear.

The best careers options for me wth my background are based in Milan, which is the reason I asked the question, so really thank you all for the knowledge sharing
