Introducing myself :)

Hello everyone, this is my first post here. I have landed on this website several times while searching Switzerland related things on Google, but never had an account. Which maybe I should have at this point, given that I've been living here since the beginning of the year and don't speak any German at all

I'm a 24 yo guy originally come from Brazil, where I'm a PhD student. I came here to do a research internship, which will last until the beginning of the next year. After that I'll head back to my country to finish my PhD (hopefully).

I have dedicated a lot of my free time since I arrived to getting to know Europe. I started visiting some interesting cities in Switzerland by train, then I moved to visiting nearby countries by Flixbus (those green buses you sometimes see near the HB), and now I've moved to going to further places by plane. I've been to 36 different cities so far, in 14 countries. Doing all that traveling is pretty exhausting really, but I don't know when/if I'll have the opportunity to do this again, so I'm going as hard as my money/body/free time allow. It's really fascinating to see how old this place is, particularly because my country has been colonized by the Portuguese and I come from a family of Italian immigrants, so it's like I'm seeing "the other side" of the process which originated me and my country, if that makes sense.

As to stuff I'm interested in (which I guess is something people talk about when they are introducing themselves), I'll name a few random ones. Lately I've been reading about quantum mechanics (hence my profile picture), mainly because there are some odd things about it which are bugging me. I have also been trying to bake some tasty stuff in my newly acquired electric oven (which I amazingly found on tutti for CHF 30), with disastrous results. I also spend more time than I probably should reading world news (maybe to compensate for the complete lack of things happening in this city).

Anyhow, those are just some random things about me to put myself out there (something I don't do very often, I'm a very introverted person). I'm looking forward to being part of this forum!

Hey lostBrazilian, hope you find some like-minded people! I'm a newbie on here too, although I have been stalking on and off for years. You should look up the Zurich page and see what the expats are doing. What are you researching for your internship? I'm studying my masters in primary maternity care while I'm in Switzerland (external course based in Australia) and am currently supposed to be working on 2 research proposals due in the next week but I am writing messages online!! Better get back to it. 1 is quantitative and the other is qualitative, so my brain is going crazy.

Thanks, I'll have a look at the Zurich page! I'm currently working on numerical modeling in Physics essentially. Wow, 2 research proposals is sure a lot, one research proposal is enough to drive me crazy... Good luck. Writing here doesn't need to be a waste of time, take it as a preparation for when you'll be writing your proposal later

Re: Introducing myself :)

Welcome one and all. Seem to be a couple of interesting folk on this thread. Nice to have you aboard. Enjoy your time in Switzerland and on EF. It's very addictive though so don't forget your studies.

Sorry about the weather. As the meteo guy once said on TV, "and after a couple of wet and blustery days here, the clouds will go back to Great Britain, where they belong". Hope this is what will happen this time too.

The rain is fine, I'm just really thankful it's not as warm as in June anymore. It felt like I was living inside a greenhouse.

Olá Brasileiro Perdido, seja bem vindo.

Enjoy your stay in Switzerland.

It seems you like to explore new places, so I suggest you to visit the Engadin Valley, in case you haven't been there. Most beautiful place in CH, IMO
