Hoi! I'm an Aussie dad (two boys aged 2 and 3) living between Grindelwald and Interlaken. I am keen to connect with other dads living nearby who'd like to meet up.

I'm often taking care of the kids during the daytime and free to do kid-friendly things. Have been riding them around in the Chariot, taking them to Bönigen beach, Jungraupark, etc. Not sure how to handle this winter yet .

I also speak Swedish and I'm working on my schwiizerdüütch. Moved here from Zurich a few years back and starting to get out and about more now that the kids are a bit bigger.

Where exactly are you? We are from Australia, but my husband is Swiss so also speaks Swiss. We live in Wengen. Our boys are a little older than your children and very active with sports, so we finally have some free time! My husband's free time has lately been doing his paragliding flights for registration. Our boys are nearly 10 and 6 years. I bet there is a playgroup that you could take them to which would help meet some other kids for playdates. It is either a playgroup or kindergymnastics that is on here (or maybe both?) once a week, so if you can't find one near you I can find out the details for you. You might then be able to make almost a day of it including the train up here. In Winter if you are starting them skiing early there is a great little area in Wengen where we brought our boys years ago, or similar one (Bodmi) in Grindy. Julie

Hi Julie. Wengen is beautiful . We're over in Burglauenen. Our eldest has recently started playgroup in Grindelwald which is great. Kindergymnastics sounds interesting, I would be keen for tips like that nearby! Going up to Wengen once a week or so would suit me fine if there is something fun for the kids to do there. It's easy to get to Wilderswil, Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, too.

I am partly inspired to post on englishforum because I recently "missed" an Aussie dad who had moved to Grindelwald but already decided to move back before we met. Bummer. We are also just back from a holiday in Australia and that was a very relaxed social time hanging out with other parents without trying to think in schwiizerdütch at the same time . I am keen to improve my Swiss German but for the moment it is not great in groups and noisy environments (which kinda describes most kid meetups like Krabeltreff.)

I met one of the organisers a few years ago and she added me. You could send your details in a message and ask to join? I then went to Australia for a few years and haven't kept in touch with anyone but I believe there are some English speaking members in Grindy. I just saw a few may be going to the Avocado bar for Halloween tomorrow. https://www.facebook.com/groups/48666532835/ and next time I see the notice for kindergym I will get the details for you. Also, if it is like Wengen there should be a youth group usually run by parents from the school. Try and get on their mailing list to keep up to date with activities, and you will eventually weed out all of the English speakers! We had our Halloween night on Saturday and it was also for children not yet at school.
