America Expat in St Gallen

Hi everyone! I am from North Carolina, USA and moved last August to St. Gallen with my Swiss husband. I am young and loving it here but missing my friends! I do have family and some Swiss friends, but I would love to catch up with someone in English. If anyone is up for coffee or brunch and is close by, let me know!

Side note - I do freelance Graphic Design and Marketing, but cost of living here is WAY higher than back home, so currently looking for work as well! If you know of anything any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: America Expat in St Gallen

Hi Margonichol,
Glad to hear you are enjoying the St Gallen area. I moved here with my Swiss wife from the San Francisco area a little over 7 years ago now. Our girls are 10 & 12 now. We live in Wittenbach, I stay home and my wife works, which is a big change for me after living and working in the US.

There is not much activity on the English forum in the St Gallen area, as you have probably noticed by now. I find searching on "Gallen" seems to work best.

I am happy to get together for coffee sometime.
All the best,
Jim

Re: America Expat in St Gallen

Hi! My name is Cara. I grew up in the Midwest (Iowa). I've been here for almost two years now. It's so hard to meet people! I've been an ESL teacher in South Korea and in Spain before and I had a much easier time meeting new people.

I am also getting my MA at the University of Zurich, so I was able to meet some friends there. All of my other friends I met through my teaching program. (I met my bf through the program as well)

Here's the teaching program I work for:https://www.movetia.ch/en/programmes...nts-programme/

Usually they only hire UK, but tell them you already have a permit and it should be fine. (I was only hired because I had a student visa) It is 16 lessons a week and you make a livable wage.

I live in Zurich, but maybe we could meet for coffee or something.

Re: America Expat in St Gallen

Hallo and welcome! I come from Canada, living in Wil with my Swiss husband and 1 year old daughter (I'm in my 30s) for the last year ans a half. Work is so tough to find here, especially English work. I also worked in marketing/advertising in Canada (Vancouver, Montreal & Calgary). I'm a stay-at-home mami, without many friends here, super tough to meet English or even Swiss people here . Swiss German is a tough language! If you'd lkke to meet for coffee or a walk let me know. I can pop over to St. Gall with my little miss.

Lg Sonya

I'm also in Wil, SG.
Moved here in June to join my boyfriend and was very lucky to find a job within a month.
If you want to go for coffee or something let me know, it's easy for me to get to St. Gallen
