An Australian whom loves Switzerland and especially Ticino!

Hi and pardon the essay you maybe about to read below!

My name is Jay, I live in Perth, Australia. Three years ago, I lived in Lugano, Ticino, Switzerland and northern Italy for around one year. Previous to this, I had travelled to Italy from Australia three times for extended holidays over a three year period.

I am glad I found this forum, because I am having 'withdrawals!' Even though, I have travelled extensively, but never felt happier than when I was living in Lugano. I miss it terribly! I miss the beauty, the people, Lago Lugano, the food and culture, and the Italian spirit coupled with the efficiency and environmental conscious of Switzerland.

As a new person here, please feel free to suggest where I should post my queries as I have many! Especially, about Visa's, entry requirements, employment and living.

In a nutshell, I have a life plan, to live in Lugano again FOREVER. It's definitely in my blood...and is never far from my sights. I fear though that I have many hurdles to jump over before I can live legally, work and have a life with the Visa restrictions and without being an EU citizen.

Am I dreaming, can an Australian like me, make it happen? Any advice appreciated.

I have my own small business as a copywriter in Australia and write marketing, business and public relations materials for companies. Previous to operating my business, I worked in Marketing, Public Relations and Advertising as a writer and manager.

I have created a predominantly web based business with the view that I could travel and still work irrelevant to where I am based. My website is under design and I will post a link here later. Also, having 'loading a photo' issues on this site, so bear with me - coming soon!

Would love to hear from Australians' living in Lugano or Ticinese people living and working in Lugano.

With kind regards
Jay

Hi Jay
Welcome to the forum. Whereabouts in Perth r u from? Are you there now. For me, I've been in Zurich 7 years but we're planning to return to Perth next year (I was living in Mt Lawley before).
Cheers
L

Ciao L

Thanks for your note. Yes, I know Mount Lawley VERY well, I used to live in Lawley Cresent, Mount Lawley actually for years! and also next door to the Queens in an apartment there. I now live in Subiaco.

What brings you back to Perth? I haven't been to Zurich, but I did travel quite a lot of Switzerland mainly the Ticino region.

7 years is a long time.......... do you miss Australia then? Or is it a career decision?

Jay

Hi Jay
Next door to the Queens- wow thats handy!! I used to go there quite often for Sunday arvo drinks a few years back now-its still there last time I was back for holidays. Subiaco is a lovely lovely area (heavy sigh...).
We originally planned to go back earlier but ended staying here longer-next is to figure out how to afford a house in Perth .

I'd say go for it and follow your dreams -you've nothing to lose just more to gain.
Best of luck
L

Hi L

Thanks for your note. Yes, Perth is really expensive now, but I thought Switzerland would be worse! ?

Do you work in Zurich and why did you move there? Just curious how you find the life and community there. The people etc......

Everytime I pick up the paper or read the news, they say Perth is going up in prices for everything, food, fuel and especially rent and property. Hope things settle down by the time you are coming back!

Will keep the Lugano dream alive, but I will need a strategy to work towards. Because the whole situation seems ominous..... I guess it will start with gathering information and learning how other people made it happen.

Anyway, stay in touch and let me know how you are going with your move. Thanks for your emails!

Jay
