Soon to be new arrival

Hello to everyone. My name is Brett and I am originally from Maryland. I have lived in Charlotte, NC, USA for the past 12 years which is where I was when I met my beautiful Swiss wife. After years of discussion and the birth of our son, Samuel (now 2), we have decided to make the move.

I am terrified and excited all at the same time. I have a wide background of skills and vocations but have no idea how I will turn any of those things into a job. I have a background in education having taught for twenty years. I have also served as an Olympic development soccer coach and certified fitness trainer. Currently I own my own home improvement and remodeling company.
I love music, writing, hiking and backpacking, craft beer, good scotch and an occasional cigar. Somewhere in all that I am sure that I will find something to do :)

I am looking forward to finding new friends and shared interests.

Hi and Welcome to the forum Brett.

With a Swiss wife and that wide range of skills, it shows that you're adaptable and hard working. I hope everything goes well for you.

Greetings and welcome. I’m also an American with Swiss wife. Where will you be living?

Hello. We will be living in Effretikon. That's close to Winterthur and not far from Zurich. Where in the States did you come from?

Welcome to Switzerland :)

American here, who married a nice Swiss guy. Seems that we share the exact same interests (although my children are furry rather than human).

I came to Switzerland with a rather diverse background as well and after 8 years, have (mostly) mapped out a great life here. Let me know if you ever have any questions. (For instance, I do know some great craft beer spots and festivals around.)

As a small recommendation, in case you want to continue on the home improvement route, there is a serious lack of handymen in this country...and through networking in the expat community, you should find quite a lot of business!

All the best

There were a few spots on the east coast, including South Carolina, but primarily western and central Pennsylvania. I met my wife at a conference and eventually had to decide if I would be coming here or her to the US. Coming here was a significant change for me, but it's been great. We have a 16 mo. old boy and Switzerland/Zürich has so much to offer that it's difficult to imagine what raising him in the US would have been like.

Hopefully, you will find the same. With your background and skills, I'm sure you'll have many, many opportunities. :)

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

Looks like you need to try either underwater hockey or underwater rugby, to round out that CV of yours ... :p
