Hello, I'm moving back to Switzerland Intro

Hello English Forum members,

After 28 years living in the US (New Hampshire), I'm attempting this big jump across the ocean and will be moving near Bern. 28 years ago all seemed so much easier. But my homeland has undergone some big changes as well. Furthermore, I'm concerned about the high cost of living how I'll juggle that.

I peaked a few times in this forum since last year and registered today, I missed to read the Intro including the Guidelines like the usage of English only (I'm not sure how to edit my comments since they await moderation).

Now I just pray to find a reliable shipper and answers to the whole process. I feel like I'm doing a crash course regarding freight forwarding and packing and custom papers, the packing itself I haven't started yet but my belongings must be shipped by end of May. - Finding an apartment in Switzerland was also very challenging, definitely not the experience I was hoping for.

I see many interesting topics here and hope in future to utilize this knowledge bank when I feel lost I'm very happy this forum exist, thank you!

Welcome to the forum.

Make sure you're aware of your continuing US tax filing obligations.

Also be prepared to sign a W-9 form to open a bank account here.

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf

You won't be able to open a bank account here without doing so.

Re: Hello, I'm moving back to Switzerland Intro

Im aware of the double taxation and if you invest your money in CH profit like capital gains will be taxed at a punitive rate, because uncle Sam is so nice. Anyway, I'm familiar the W9 form for US when you open an account in CH as US citizen, but Post Finance charges SFr. 25 a month if you don't live there, btw they messed up my account opening, lol. Thanks for the info that can be helpful to others.

Moving back? So you lived here before or you’re simply moving to Switzerland?

Berne is a good choice either way
